More dummy help...

My DS is 27 months and very dependent on his dummy to the extent that he has given it a name (one is pink ink - yes he has a pink dummy - the other is blue ice ). He is only allowed to have it in his cot or in his pushchair but it doesn't stop him asking for it whenever he gets tired ie during supper or his bath he can scream and tantrum for it. He will only occasionally wake up and ask for it in the night.

Any advice on how I can start weaning him off it?

No, my ds is 3 y and 2 mo and worse than ever with his dummy. Father Christmas may take Ds's as he goes to the School Nursery in January and I've told him he's getting too big now. He says he isn't so that's that!!! I read on here that dipping the dummies in vinegar and air drying them gives them a horrible taste so I may try that if all else fails. I'll keep on eye on this thread for other tips

I remember someone talking about getting their DS/DD to leave their dummy out for Father Christmas to take away "in exchange" for presents. Father Christmas then "takes the dummy to a baby who needs it" -can't remember if it worked or not though.

Great idea on the vinegar - might have to try that one. He'll probably just ask me to wash it! Don't really want to go cold turkey on him as my friend's father did that to her when she was 2 (she's now 35) and she still remembers!!!

Our local childrens farm has a string of dummies by the pig pen where children have left theirs for the baby animals.

Friend of mine remebers giving it to the dustbin men. Her mum had told her she was to old and that it was time to get rid of it. So they went out and met the dustbin men that week and handed it over. She remembers it as a milestone in her life.

Course that may not work if your Ds insists he isn't to big for it. Not very helpful. Sorry.

We had to do cold turkey (similar age)... DD gave hers to the fairies, and they turned them into a Mickey Mouse dvd overnight . She was a little star though, and was sooo good.
