DTs must of had a growth spurt as I have now discovered they can open the back door.

Got dt2 dressed this morning (7am and still dark) put her down to play, and as I was getting dt1 dressed I heard a distant cry from dt2, I thought she must have gone upstairs, but found the stairgate locked, went into the kitchen to find the backdoor wide open and dt2 stood about 50 yds away in the middle of the carpark.

She only cried because of the gravel hurting her feet, thankgod I had'nt put her shoes on which oddly I normally do, she would of carried on and it would have been another few minutes before I realised as I would have finished dressing dt1 first and put her hair up.

Thank god we dont live on a main road

oh god, something like this happened to me a year or so ago. Only realised that DD1 could open the front door whilst I was out pegging out washing in the garden. She had been playing in the paddling pool, had gone briefly indoors when the door bell rang (I couldn't hear it). She was completely naked too. Luckily, it was a neighbour.

Awful for you - but sooooooo easily done.

I have done this before two. When we moved into this house. It has a double glazed front door that has a handle on it, goes directly into the living room. I was always really careful to keep it locked and put the keys on the shelf. One morning whilst i wa upstairs getting dressed i looked out of the window to see a man sitting on my wall, i thought this was really strange and went downstairs. My front door was wide open and there was a child of about 6 in my living room playing with my boys who were eating icecreams. The man told me that he had found my boys in the road and only knew they lived here cause the door was open. He had put them inside and bought them icecream from the van. He had knocked the door and called hello but i hadnt heard him as i was in the bathroom.

Ds1 had got the keys and managed to open the door and they had been found wondering down the middle of the road they were 3 and 16 months. Its a busy road - anything could have happened. I am so greatful to that man for bringing them home and felt bad that my first thought was "why is that wierdo sitting on my wall staring at my house"

Keys are always kept on me now. I am so lucky that my boys were ok. Glad your dt was ok little monsters at that age!

aw! Don't be so hard on yourself, most of us can tell similar tales! Just take a couple of deep breaths and remember that nothing actually happened, you didn't lose her! Don't torture yourself with 'what ifs', it didn't happen.

OMG Tamba! What a nice man though! But what a shock for you!

I think it is safe to say, the door will be kept locked from now on, at least it was only a minor incident to teach me that lesson. I a bit spooked at the fact I did'nt put her shoes on this morning, I always put their shoes on routinely. WEIRD
