Dummy Research Dilema

Has anyone seen the lastest research in relation to dummies and cot death? This couldn't have come at a worst time for me. My 7 month old DD has had a dummy from birth and we went cold turkey on Monday night. This was because she was spitting it out up to 20 times a night and crying for it back, this was meaning a very disturbed sleep for all. Although she has a paddy the first night for 45mins, since she has never slept so well. going down at 7.30pm without a sound and sleeping through until 7.30 the next morning. However the foundation for the study of infant cot death, states that they recommend continued use of a dummy until 12 months old. What do you think I should do? I'm in total dilema whether to give it her back or not. Is anyone else in the same situation?

But they also say that if you use a dummy, and then have a night without it, the risk of cot death is increased to above average.

To me, this implies that if the baby spits the dummy out, he is actually at greater risk. Like your DD, our DS has a dummy to go to sleep but it always falls out during the night - so is he in fact at greater risk?

Personally, I wouldn't give her it back, at least not until there is greater clarity with this research.

Agree with pablopatito, the dummy is not in the mouth all night!!
I would carry on as you are, you have done so well.

The peak incidence for SIDS is between 2 and six months, so your baby is not a high risk child anymore, provided of course, she sleeps on her back, you are smoke-free and she can't slip under the covers. I am sure you will be fine.
