Hello, I'm new here & I have a wee wee question :o)

Hello there . I've just joined up to mumsnet after discovering it through Google & finding some really useful tips (you lot know your stuff!!). My name is Tracy & I have a lovely 16 month old little boy, and a lovely 32 year old big husband. We are all lovers of Bon Jovi & lovely food (my husband & I are lovers of sleep, our little boy has yet to discover the joys of this passtime).

My question is this. He's still in nappies (in very very early stages of trying to potty train him), but every morning he is soaking wet. No matter what brand of nappy I buy the wee leaks out due to the vast amount of it. Is this unusual? Should I be worried that my little one is producing too much wee? Or am I just being rediculously paranoid?

Sorry this is long . Any advice would be very much appreciated . Thanks in advance xx

My boys are the same, ds1 is 3 and still wears a nappy at night, it always leaks without fail! (we use pampers, but it seems to be the same what ever nappies we use)

Ds2 is 19 months and his is always damp too - we just got used to it. Maybe its cause they wear them so long? bed at 6.30pm and then up at 8.30am ish. Not sure

Welcome to MN!

(ps DS means darling son)

hello and welcome

Firstly i would say that, in my opinion, 16 months is too young to be potty training.

As for being soaking wet, u could try putting his normal nappy on then another in the next size up over the top? (can't rememeber wher i read that so dunno how useful it is)

also make sure he is 'pointing downwards' when u put his nappy on (if u don't already)

It's a relief to here someone else is having the same problem, thanks Tamba!

It's only just started happening you see, so I was a little concerned.

A question for you though if I may, how on earth do you get your kids to sleep from 6.30 till 8.30??!!! I'm hoping that this is something that will happen when my ds (thanks for the tip !!) reaches 19 months maybe? Please tell me it will.....please!

Ta for the welcome too, mind if I make myself comfy .

Son had this when he was a baby.. he would wake up soaking wet and cold, I needed to change him and the sheet... someone told me to put gauze in his nappy so this soaked up first before his nappy did... this worked for us

(I brought a roll of gauze from boots and used to cut out a big square it stick in his nappy)

16 months????????

My ds is 4.5yrs and is still wet in the morning!

Relax woman. My dd is 16mths old and I won't even be showing her a potty until she's 20 mths or so!

hi welcome to mumsnet, word of warning it is seriously addictive.

I have a 16 month old DD and won't be potty training until she's at least 2, they don't know they are going and also can't tell you when they need. When my DD does a wee nappyless she tries and runs away from it!

She's also a heavy wetter and I've found Pampers Baby Dry the best for night time. She tends to wee less at night though so the nappy is very heavy but doesn't leak in the mornings. Maybe trying going to the next size up as they are more absorbant.

You know, I did think it was a little too young too, but I was going off advice from MIL. Should really listen to self more often, but he's my first (and last) and pretty much go with any advice I can get!

I'm just getting him used to it at the moment though, letting him play with it etc. May just take it a bit easier....and relax .

Thank you so much for all of the advice xx

Listening to your MIL's advice? That's got to stop, girl!

Even when your ds is ready to be potty trained, chances are he will still be wet overnight - it's not something he has any control over. My dd is 4.5 and is still dripping wet every morning, she's been dry for nearly 2 years but just isn't ready for being dry overnight.

I've been putting her in Pampers Easy Up pants, and found that up until she was 4 they contained all the wee and didn't leak. Now she's bigger they don't cut the mustard but for a child of 16 months they might be worth a try.

Thanks for the advice wigwambam .

Regarding the MIL thing, yes you are absolutely right. I should have learnt my lesson years ago, what can I say?

Now I've found this place though, maybe I can carefully distance myself a little......

Ah if we all listened to our M or MILs . Mine is the same and my DD is 27 months. Any wees or poos in the potty is a complete fluke as she isn't that interested in it yet. It's worth bearing in mind that most mothers from bygone generations used real nappies so a) the toddlers would notice the wet more and b) the mothers were desperate to get out of the nappy washing/drying drudge.

My DS is sometimes wet in the morning, usually because he has had too much fluid the night before or during the night, DH hasn't put his nappy on tight enough, his willy is pointing to the north or any combination of the above. The willy pointing south is a big factor. When he was just a baby I had to change him, his PJs and the bedding every 3 hours until a wise Mumsnetter pointed out the willy thing!

Good Luck and don't sweat it!
