5mo hates tummy time

DD3 is 5mo and hates tummy time, I've been trying her every day since she was about 10-12 weeks but almost straight away she complains and cries, she is a very quiet content baby normally (except on her belly) she is turning on her side and is happy is any other position. Should I continue to try her or just accept she's not a tummy baby? I don't remember any trouble with my other two.

Mine both hated it - I never really bothered. I know there's a theory that their gross motor skills develop more slowly if they're not having it but it didn't seem to make any difference at all to their neck control etc.

If you do want to carry on, try lying on you back with her on your chest.

My dd never liked it much either. We didn't do it much.

Ooh, I remember worrying about DD hating tummy time, and us not really doing it as a result.

My sister put it into perspective perfectly for me. Her response was' oh, yes we never did it either - can't you tell? Mine are the kids dragging their heads down the road to school' followed by a Hmm look at me. Grin

fair point Dsis!

Dead right, I'm gonna leave it and just put her on her tummy on my chest, she seems to find that a bit better than on the floor or cot. Thanks for the replys!

DS, 6 months, only started loving it since he started rolling onto his tummy himself, this was about one month ago.Now he wants to be on his tummy all the time, but before he just cried. Try rolling a blanket and putting it under her armpits, she'll be able to keep her head up and look around more and maybe not get frustrated so quickly. Worked for about 2 minutes for mine... :)

You can also hold her in your arms (while standing) with her chest along one arm and head unsupported - this exercises the same muscles as tummy time.

I never ever forced my two to have tummy time, not once.
When they learnt to roll over - then they chose to experience being on their tummy

And the fact that I never bothered with 'tummy time' has had absolutely no difference on their development what so ever :)
