Ideas please!
Number 1 is just about OK, but how about number 2-s???
An awkward experience for both participants, to say the least!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the stinky topic!

My toddler could climb onto back of the sofa, the windowsill etc.

I take him with me.

When DS1 was smaller I'd take him into the bathroom with me, he wasn't bothered and I could keep an eye on him. Had some toys and books to keep him entertained if necessary. Around the potty training stage he was quite interested about the mechanics of it all -- though I left DH to teach him the standing-up peeing technique Grin. Now he's older he'll wander in and out as not particularly interested, but I'm still watching DS2...

Which isn't to say that yes I'd love to have a quiet no.2 in peace and spend ages reading a magazine but that luxury disappears when you're a parent as far as I can see. Though DH and I have an unspoken agreement at the weekends that if one of us is in the toilet then the other one will entertain the kids for as long as necessary without shouting out "are you done yet?".

don't shut the door and play " can you find a ..... "
car and bring it here, ball and bring it here.... works best if no stairs involved.
Or in public toilets
Can you point to a square, a circle, a blue thing etc etc.

I think it's pretty normal to never shut the toilet door when you have young children.

Mine went through a stage of being fascinated by my toilet activity, passing me loo roll, asking what I'm doing etc etc, now fascination has passed and he just carries on playing in the room adjacent to the loo, may pop his head in, may not... I'm in there a matter of 3 minutes, so it's not long!

Same when I have a shower - I know the house is babyproofed, but I'd usually put ds in his room (baby gate on the door) and go for a quick shower while he plays (or takes all of his clothes out of the drawers).

Oh yes, in public toilets, he comes in with me, does his stuff first, then I go while he tells me what colour the door, handle, loo roll holder, floor, lock etc etc is.

Leave them downstairs in front of cbeebies with a snack and check all stairgates are shut. Then pray no one is hurt and WW3 doesn't break out.

I could never have them in there with me. For a start there isn't the space and my IBS would get even worse if I had to poo with an audience.

I do the same as Firawla.

DD is 17mo, and my mindee is 15mo (I am a childminder)

Ofsted are perfectly happy with that.
