Why is dd2 (3) now wetting herself?

She was potty trained in Sept and was brilliant but lately has been wetting herself randomly. Yesterday she came home from nursery in full 'nursery special' outfit - despite having two changes of clothes left there - so that means she wet herself THREE times

She gets very cross if you ask her why and says 'it just came out'.

Any suggestions? I have been a bit cross but is there a patented way to handle this?

If I am wrong...sorry...but are you newly pregnant?
Could it be attention?

popsycalindisguise · 07/12/2005 13:21

Hmmm, my dd2 has been doing quite a lot of wetting herself recently - at home, not at her childminder - but she is a bit younger. I've been wondering if with DD2 it's a bit of tension around the fact both her parents are knackered and stressed after DP's mum died, and DD1 has started school as well which is another change although not that stressful a one.

Hate to be really cliched, but new baby stuff?

littledonkeyrach · 07/12/2005 13:22

Maybe she gets bogged down in what she is doing at nursery?
Are the workers good at reminding them to try? And do they take them as soon as they need to go? Little ones find it hard to hold it in.

Does she do it at home?

JenumGeranium · 07/12/2005 13:22

She doesnt have an infection or something like that does she?

Maybe she likes the nursery special outfit!?

motherinfurrierfestivehat · 07/12/2005 13:23

DD2 has been known to stand next to the loo and then suddenly lose the plot and pee torrentially

OComeOliveFaithfOil · 07/12/2005 13:24

Is she getting distracted when playing? dd1 did this twice at playgroup and once at home when watching cbeebies (!), they get caught up with what they are doing and forget.

No idea on what to do, maybe mention it to playgoup and get them to ask her if she needs the loo.

If my three year old has an accident now it's usually either because she is tired or she is too engrossed in something and hasn't left herself enough time.

What do the nursery say? Has she been doing exciting christmassy thing which have put her off her stroke there?

Enideepmidwinter · 07/12/2005 13:30

yes she had her nativity yesterday

she does say 'I was busy playing', but it seems a bit odd that she has only just started doing it.

could be the baby I suppose. How on earth do I tackle that though.

She doesn't like the loos at nursery - she can't manage to get far enough back on them and then she wees so powerfully forward that it runs down the front and all over her trousers!

I took her potty in today to see if that might help.

How on earth do you get a urine sample from a 3 year old?

Could also be that the staff were a bit busier than usual and weren't as good about noticing the hopping about stage pre-loo?

Have they got a step she could use to help her get onto the toilet?

What about star charts for days when she is dry...seven stars and a packet of princess pants will be hers?

Enideepmidwinter · 07/12/2005 13:43

yes good advice puddle (appropriate name too )

I had thought about the star chart...I am crap at them and never keep them up though - MUST DO BETTER.

There is no step I might suggest that next term. It is a tiny loo though but seeing her at the nativity next to all the other children she is quite little.

enid - see my thread on 3 yr old dd Xmas presents...

motherinfurrierfestivehat · 07/12/2005 13:47

As far as the baby's concerned, all the fussing over and 'you're little still' stuff that DD1 needed after DD2 was born might suffice. She might just still need to know that she matters to you.

Enideepmidwinter · 07/12/2005 13:49

oh god

she probably doesnt really feel that atm as she is HUGELY CLINGY and I have started to back off slightly to try and get dh to take more of a role.

it all becomes clear through the eyes of mumsnet

(I like it when you are here in the daytime motherinferior .)

dd1 doesn't like the toilets at the playgroup either.

Enideepmidwinter · 07/12/2005 16:49

well the nursery teacher (who shall forwith be named St Nursery Teacher) took her every time and managed to encourage her to wiggle back on the loo, and gave her a sticker every time she did a wee - result, one dry child in the same clothes (smile0
