Bamboozles....

Mine turned up this morning (I sat stroking it for aaaaaaaages), and having no child to try it on yet, I chucked it in the wash to test drying times.

Normal wash, and has been on the radiator for a couple of hours and is nearly dry. I'd heard that they took longer than normal tots to dry, and am now a bit baffled as this is faster than I remembered my rainbows taking... Is it because it is first wash maybe? Or did you guys tell me fibs to stop me buying them????

LOL yay it came see u had a free fluffle as well - what do u think to them?

FlameRobin · 05/12/2005 16:02

I am considering taking the bamboozle to bed with me as a comforter (you have no idea how serious I'm being). I just need to go round to my friend's now so I can try it out on her little lady!!!

The fluffle I like less... it did dry amazingly quickly, but it seems bulkier than the normal ones, and does that weird catchy thing. But I do like the way it has a little pockety bit to it - I'll probably end up using it for nights, and the pocket makes it easier to bulk up.

Got mine today too. Aren't they thin? Haven't prewashed it yet.

i dont like the fluffle, dd3 has nappy rash and even tho i usually use it for nighttime as its very absorbant, i went for good old cotton terries tonight, something a bit more natural and will hopefulyl help her skin breathe and repair.

FlameRobin · 06/12/2005 10:58

I was told by someone else that the microfibre type stuff makes children prone to nappy rash worse, so you're probably making the right move Misdee.

I still keep looking at this bamboozle trying to work out how it will hold much wee.... Really gotta get to my friend's to test it on her baby!!!

I've been really impressed by the bamboozle, it thickens after a few washes (tho still slimmer than an unbleached Tots) and seems to hold huge amounts of wee. Our record is 5 1/2 hours unboosted during the day, with no leaks.

I'd really love towels in this stuff (maybe for Xmas)

I've found the fluffles very smelly tho and quite bulky so I'm not sure I'm going to keep those.

Londoner · 08/12/2005 12:33

Hi,

Am a 1st time at washables, so bought a selection inc. Bamboozles. It's true, they are slim and v.absorbant but do take longest to dry of all my nappies.....comparable to tots bots white nappies on that front....but they are much softer in a hard water area with no tumble dryer.
I like fluffles too and don't find them too bulky for daytime, or maybe that's because my baby is still only in babygro's @ 6 weeks old? I love sandy's and MEO'S and Tots originals too....oh and the bimble is just fantastic for newborn isn't it! Always used ME wraps, find them great too....

Bagpussinboots · 15/12/2005 10:16

Have just got one of these in the post this morning. How slim it is!!! and so so soft. I am off to pre-wash it now!

FlameRobin · 15/12/2005 10:31

Mine seemed to dry fairly quickly... faster than white tots - although I guess I'm comparing size 1 to size 2...

Hi everyone! Ive got bamboozles and fluffles for my 6mth old and I love them both. I don't find much difference between them in drying but I like the slim fitting of the bamboozle under his clothes which can be a bit of a struggle to fit over a fluffle! Still love the fluffle too though. First time overnight in one last night, boosted with a tots red fleece wrap and he was fine in the morning, despite everything it has to contend with!!

xmasmcmudding · 15/12/2005 13:53

I've got 20 size 2 nonaplix Tots for dd, but I keep trying to persuade dh that we really need, say, 5 Bamboozles just to be fully stocked on the nappy front. How can I get my way??

fruitful · 15/12/2005 13:55

Well, if you wash them a bit less often, you'll keep running out... thus proving that you need more nappies.

xmasmcmudding · 15/12/2005 14:02

Tried that one - just got a lecture on "being more organised..."

Although have already saved buckets of cash as these are ds' old Totsbots.

Tell me more about the difference in bulkiness. This might be the clincher, cos dd has a few presents from Gap (for anorexic babies) which she can squeeze into if she wears a Moltex. Dh isn't happy to see unnecessary 'sposie usage so would a bamboozle be more likely to let her wear her skinny-fit clothes?

FlameRobin · 15/12/2005 14:37

I have managed to convince Dh that since we should be eligible for the sure start grant, and we hadn't been expecting it (plus hopefully a contribution from the nappy fairy aka My dad), that it means that we can get a full set of bamboozles , or at least size 1s, and I'll put up with my old tots for bigger... I am going with the arguement of if the fairy chips in, then we can afford both, sell the old tots, and end up better off .

I used my fluffle the other night on DD (amazed - she is squished into a size 3 normal tots, but the size 2 fluffle fitted fine), but she ended up with a sore bum . No idea why - I used a fleece liner, and it had a normal booster and that liner thingy its already got, so she shouldn't have reacted to the microfibre. Could just be where she's got a cold I guess. But ignoring the rash - I loved it... held loads, and it didn't weigh a ton in the morning

FR - glad u liked the fluffle i've been worried since everyone's raved about the bamboozle but not the fluffle and we have 15 flulffles size 1 - do u think I could convince DH to sell them after a few months and get diff ones! lol.

how did u get on wiht the bamboozle?

FlameRobin · 15/12/2005 15:00

If you've got size 1s, then you'll be needing bigger after a few months anyway , and it would be a shame to waste the opportunity to try a different type!!!

I've still not met up with my friend to try out the bamboozle yet - should be seeing her on Monday, so I can report back then . Its still lovely and soft after a couple of washes, but not as silky as before I washed it .... wonder what it would be like tumble dried though!!!

I have a sad little life, I know...

OP posts:
munz · 15/12/2005 15:03

tumbled mine it came out OK as did the fluffle only took an hour to dry them. I think size 2's will be bamboozles althou DH isn't as keen on the look of those ones!

is it right that white vinegar can help with the pee smell?/how does that work? (don't want to be snififng my DS's nappys after they've been dried!

FlameRobin · 15/12/2005 15:21

Nothin against tumble drying... I normally don't, but purely for electric costs. Makes em come up all nice and fluffy again, which is why I was thinking about playing with the bamboozle .

White vinegar - I used to put it in the drawer in the washing machine where the conditioner goes (a nice well measured "splash" )... dunno if that was right, but it seemed to work!!!

OP posts:
fruitful · 15/12/2005 17:11

White vinegar basically works as rinse aid (so yes you put a couple of tbsps in the conditioner drawer). It helps get all the soap out. The soap residue reacting with the wee is what causes the smell. If it gets really bad, do a 60C wash with no soap at all after you've washed them (every so often).

vkone · 16/12/2005 08:30

Just as an aside, white vinegar is great for smells, I had a rather smelly top to wash and soaked the offending bit in the vinegar before washing and it came out fresh as a daisy!

shannon1998 · 01/01/2006 01:06

can i wash adult nappys and plastic pant easy?

Mimixx · 05/01/2006 18:38

Hi everyone! First time I post here, it's a bit strange talking poo with strangers but there you go. I've been using fluffles for 8 weeks now and it was a learned process! I've learned that they fit much better with the motherease airflow wrap than with the tots wrap. A wrap with velcro squashes the fluffle too much and makes them leak, and causes nappy rash. With an air flow, no rash and no leak. I have a couple of bamboozles too, which I love, but I'd recommend going straight for size 2 as the nappy is so slim that you can fold the front for a nice fit for smaller baby - maybe from 9 lbs onwards?

I have a few square terry nappies, just in case I run out, and motherease airflow works really well with those too.

Rach69 · 05/01/2006 19:02

Really fancy the bamboozles (due any day now) never used reusables with any of my other 3. Can I ask you experienced mums a couple of questions please?! (I've been looking at the totsbots website) I'm bidding on a few on ebay to try out.

  1. My babies, although born large (9lbish) are bf and tend to be quite slim IYKWIM - will bamboozles fit under 'normal' clothes?

  2. Do you use waterproof wraps in the day and fleeces at night?

  3. Has anyone tried a booster pad in a fleece for a newborn as suggested on the website video?

  4. The website suggests not to use size 2 with aplix velcro folded over for a younger baby as they will chafe - is this true - much prefer the aplix and think those nappi nippas will put others (eg dp and family) off changing nappies!

Thanks!

Rach69 · 05/01/2006 19:03

Baby due anyday not bamboozles!

misdee · 05/01/2006 19:07

yes the aplix may chafe, and they will be harder and more resistant to being folded as well.

cloth nappies do fit under normal clothes as long as the wasit bands and bottoms are more generously cut. the bestplace i have found to buy clothes are next (one size up to normal, but now dd3 is in 9-12months at 10months old so it evens up) tescos and other people recommend H&M. mothercare trousers are pants.

i use waterproof wraps dueing the day amd sometimes at night, tho am switching over to wool wraps at night. (waiting for new longies to be made )
