Accussed of abusing blue badge (bit of a whinge, sorry)

DH has a blue badge, (and higher rate mobility), he can walk short distances wearing splints and having to take strong (prescribed) painkillers for the pain. He falls over and stumbles.

He took DD to her swimming lesson yesterday, and came home saying some old lady in the car park had said something to him about parking in the disabled bay.
I thought, well that happens a lot. And dismissed it.

This morning he took DD swimming, well I dropped him off then went to petshop to get dog food (parked in normal bays at pet shop, like normal).
Went back to pick up DH. Pulled into disabled bay and before i'd had a chance to switch the engine off, And a lady( 65-75 I'd guess) came up to the car, knocked on the window and demanded to know whether I had a blue badge, which I pointed out to her, she then told me the disabled person had to be in the car to use it. I said I was picking my husband up. And she started getting all huffy with me.
DH was, whilst this was going on, walking to car from building.

I honestly don't understand what this lady's problem was. The badge was used for the benefit of my DH. To pick him up.

I never use the blue badge for myself. I understand it usage. DH would gladly give up his badge if his condition could be "cured".

Why do some people have to be like this?

I get dagger looks when we have DD in car and I get out first before DH has got DD out, i think people are just DYING to see someone abusing the blue badge so they can feel all virtuous and tell them off

beabea, I'd have taken one off the rude old git so-and-so anyway. If necessary, I'd have promised to give it back when his friends came (and then made a point of struggling mightily with it).

i said "do old people get blue badges automatically" & i was not joking it was a genuine question, i don't know how the system works for pensioners as i only have experience as a 30 year old woman with a disability applying for one.

i also said that this man took the last PARENT & CHILD parking space when there were 6+ disabled spaces available, so forgive me for feeling a little annoyed by this, i don't feel that is being judjemental. i am waiting for my bb application to be processed so i rely heavily on the parent & child spaces at the moment. when i am weak & in a lot of pain & something like this happens it does make you appraise the situation & as i say feel a little annoyed by someone doing this as i feel it is inconsiderate.

Try "Are you a doctor? Are you otherwise medically qualified? If neither of these, are you an official parking warden or police officer or other official? Then you must be a miserable, nosy, interfering old sod.
Mind your own business and bugger off."

The last time a couple of old wimmin had a huff at me I asked if I could help them. then I asked if they had a problem with me using a disabled bay. I followed that with "At your age, you must have seen hundreds of disabled ex-servicemen and women - young ones, just like me" Amazing how quick their attitudes changed.
