There is apparently, a new baby signing craze out now. (for perfectly able hearing babies by the way). Has anyone, done it. Does it work? Does is delay their speech at all?

Dingdongmeggymooonhigh: what DVD would you recommend?

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you, I bought the Sing and Sign DVD from their website - I also bought the vocab.book too which is fab!

The DVD is great, because you actually see the teacher showing us how to do the signs... the book is good, with lots of frequently used words, but seeing someone actually sign makes it much easier to remember. The Sing and Sign DVD is fun for the little ones to watch too, as the teacher sings silly songs to help the babies remember.

I'd highly recommend the DVD's, Tiny Talk (they have a website too) and Sing and Sign use a very easy version of British Sign Language - there is an American one (can't think of his name right now), but their signs are different.

My little boy loves the new DVD, as it shows a trip to the zoo, a little one learning to use the potty and Jessy Cat - who is a puppet (he is already signing 'cat' and 'where' - in only three days!! Good luck, it is so rewarding - you'll feel very pleased with yourself and your baby when they make that first sign.

Just a hint.... get your husband, their grandparents everyone involved as repetition is definitely the key. You will probably think that your baby isn't learning anything, as he/she won't sign for what seems like ages, but one day that little sign will come - and you'll be in tears!!!lol

Ive always sung to dd, shes 22 months and her speach is great.

Yes, deffo works. I signed with My DD and she had a huge vocab... getting up to 140 words and signs at about 17 months ish... could sign / say almost anything. She is now two, talks in full sentences (six, seven word sentences) with almost full grammar (such as 'Daddy, sit down, read book' or 'mummy, I have biscuit, please?'). Almost all of her early words were words that she had previously signed and everyone who knows her is a convert. Even My MIL who originally did not like the idea at all, ended up telling complete strangers they ought to do it with their babies!

Honestly, I cannot express enough how much of a difference it makes, and how nice it is to be able to 'listen' to your child at such a young age!!

Go for it
