I'm really nervous. Its on a childrens ward in the area I wanted to be Yippeee!! I'm there till March so this week is my last week at uni for a few months, although still have quite a few of assignments to do during the time.

Any tips or advice on being on placement?

Hiya. Sounds like a good placement. I'm a social work student and on my placements and from talking to others on my course (and to lots of student nurses also) I've found that getting on with people is, unsurprisingly, really key to it all going well. Luckily that's not too hard really- I reckon you need to be:
Friendly
Enthusiastic
Boned up on key issues but definitely steering clear of coming across as a know-it-all. Fine line and all that!
Good luck- I'm sure it'll be fine and you'll really enjoy it.

I have just finished my furst one are you training in children's nursing?

I think its important to be helpful, make beds etc, also make sure you take advantage of any oppertunities, ask lots of questions and if a patient goes somewhere (X-ray, dialysis etc) ask to accompany them.

Oh and ask to do things, I think at times they were inclined to not ask me to do things because it was my first placement. I did a lot because I stepped up and asked and I got very positive feedback on that!
