I currently have ds and his friend here they are both aged 10.
Ds is an only dc and I feel he needs to become more independant.
His friend is quite sensible and at home he is allowed to go to the shop by himself he walks to call for friends etc.
Ds is a little different doesn,t mix with anyone out of school and has not been to the shop by himself etc he can be awkward and is lacking in self confidence.
I would like for when his freind comes over for them both to get out and about instead of spending time on the xbox, ds etc as I feel it would benefit ds greatly, friends mom is fine about it if I do.
The park is about a mile away just a few quiet roads to cross but they would be cycling on the path along side a busy road and then down a long subway shall I let them do it.
I know I will be anxious if I do but feel better knowing his friend is with him.

Let them go. If they are confident and know the way and know how to call you if they need to, then they will be fine.

If your son is happy to go with his friend, then i think it is a good idea. It will be good for his confidence. Tell them to stick together and phone you if any problems.
