5yos - how many hrs sleep on a school night?

DD is 5.11. She's usually in bed at 7 on school nights (rarely asleep before 7.30-8) but is waking up about 6.30 and then is tired by the time I leave her at school at 8.50.

How many hrs sleep do your 5yr olds get on a school night? What time do you put them to bed?

Thanks

ds2 is 5y6m. I try to get him in bed by 8pm, but sometimes it is a little later. He wakes up around 7am.

ds1 used to still be awake around 8.30pm (just reading in his room - as he is now, aged 8y), and again awake around 7am.

A friend used to have her 5yo in bed at 6.30pm, I was in awe, and slightly jealous!

I have 5.10 DS in bed at 7.30 at latest. Hideously early riser though which suits me on weekdays but not at weekends. Don't want to put him in bed earlier though as desperately need me time Confused

DS is asleep by 7.30 and awake at 7. He goes up to bed at 7

About 11 ish hours here. Put DD to be just after 7, she's usually asleep around 7.30 and wakes between 6.30 and 7.

BerylOfLaughs · 17/07/2011 21:15

Thanks, sounds about right then.

12 hours. 7ish to 7.20ish when I wake him up.
At the weekend bedtime is still 7ish and he will sleep till 9.30 unless woken.

BerylOfLaughs · 18/07/2011 09:25

Oh how I wish for a 9:30 start at the weekend!

DD is nearly 5.10 and goes to bed about 7:30 but probably doesn't go to sleep until about 8:30pm. Generally needs waking at about 7:30 on school days but will sleep longer at weekends.

MovingAndScared · 18/07/2011 11:00

DS upstairs 7.15/7.30 asleep by 8 maybe before - varys when he gets up can be 6.30 can need to be woken - so 11ish hours too
if he does get up early then does seem a bit tired before school but seems to pick up fine

megkat · 18/07/2011 12:26

Very dependant on each child - DD1 was asleep bang on 7 and slept till 7 or 8 next morning (she's 7 now and not much different - she has always liked her bed!).

DD2 is 5 (6 in November) and goes to bed at 7.30ish but never asleep before 8.30 - singing, pottering and generally "settling" until then - but again she's always been like that :). Wakes between 7 and 7.30, weekdays and weekends.

DD1 is 5 in a fortnight. She gets up ridiculously early - anytime from 5am onwards so as a consequence she's knackered by bedtime which is now usually 7pm ish (used to be 7.30-8pm). Despite her tiredness, she is often up and down until sometimes getting on for 9pm but still gets up just as early. We did have a rare sleep until 7am last week but we'd done nothing different and it hasn't been repeated!

Kewcumber · 18/07/2011 15:03

in bed ready to sleep (after stories etc) by 8pm (usually asleep within 15mins) awake anytime from 6am - 7.30am usually

Kewcumber · 18/07/2011 15:04

I think offical guideline is 10-12 hours

sammie0782 · 18/07/2011 20:39

Hi Beryl - If she's waking up, but still tired, perhaps it's just too light in her room? Have you thought about putting up a blackout blind?

BerylOfLaughs · 19/07/2011 19:44

Thanks all. We have a blackout blind plus a curtain so I don't think it's light. I think she probably doesn't need as much sleep as she used to have. The tiredness in the morning might just be a morning thing as she isn't so tired in the evening.
