Do you ever make your dc clear their plate?

I don't generally. If I feel they are genuinely full or don't like something

But it is difficult to get my ds to eat a decent breakfast. I offer various options. He doesn't like cereal with milk, but after months of dry cereal not being eaten (and half of it ending up on the floor) I refused to give it to him anymore.

He has gone off toast now. I made him finish his weetabix (warmed with milk) and threatened to keep it for his lunch if he didn't finish. I feel bad but then I get asked for snacks all morning and he starts school in August and will need a proper breakfast.

Any ideas?

Yes FruitSalad he will. I am sure it will be fine. Its just the days when he will eat very little and then asks for a snack half an hour later, I worry he will be hungry for the first session in school. However I am sure he will regulate himself tbh.

Some good ideas here - vary the food if he's bored. My DS (now 9) is very skinny, not a fussy eater at all, just doesn't eat much quantity and always on the go. DD is 6 and has more particular ideas. We've had much better mornings / breakfasts since I decided to have more variety. It doesn't have to be any more time consuming, might go:
boiled egg and soldiers
pancakes (proper ones take longer so only on certain days, but the fat ones in packets are quick)
toast with cooked tomatoes or mushrooms
DD loves toast with cheese ( think German breakfasts!)
eggy bread
porridge
bacon sandwich?
cereal tends to be only one morning a week.
Mine not keen on yoghurt but I have that with fruit and the crunchy cereal.
