my daughter is 2 and almost 7 months.
we have had a potty and a childs toilet seat for about 6-8 months now, just to gradually wean it into everyday life.

she 'has' dont number 1's and 2's on the potty, but then she got the seat and prefered that.

she has been on and done what she does about 5-6 times, but now shows no interest in using either, nor will she tell me when she has a dirty nappy which she always used too.
her pull ups have been so wet in the mornings, that her pyjamas are soaked through every morning, so i bought proper nappys hoping they would have better absorbancy, but this morning was the same
she doesnt tell me shes wet, she just says help?

she has started going to nursery and i would prefer her to be using the toilet there, plus her being over 2 & 1/2 and still in pull ups makes me feel like a lazy mother..also, we go abroad in february and i really really want her to be at least using toilets through the days by the time we go.

can someone please comme to my house and show me what im doing wrong and what i should be doing
TIA

don't worry about her age! i think that age-wise what she is doing (or not doing!) is perfectly normal

i think i would do 2 things:

  1. sit her on the loo every 20 mins/half an hour
  2. start a star chart. every time she does something on the loo she gets a sticker... prize after she does a certain amount

of course, it's helpful if you can have a couple of days at home to do it iwth!

thanks you two

i stopped her drinking last night from about 6pm and only gave her a little sip before bed and she was dry this morning(also slept through-with me though cos she kept coughing and spoluttering and scaring the life out of me!-till 8.15!!!)..so did same again tonight, just a few sips after six(think ill make that my motto!), and also tonight left her to settle herself(yes i know, terrible overprotective mother)..gave kisses and cuddles, sat with her for a few mins then said i was going to get my bath stuff ready..she cried for 5 seconds, i said i would be back(she knows i mean that now as shes getting used to it at nursey)..so i did, then i said i was going to have my bath and she should snuggle up and try to go to sleep and i would make sure she was okay when i got out..she was so 'big' and said ok mammy..and low and behold my little girl was snoring her head off when i got out 10 minutes later!!!...what a big girl!...just the toilet situation now!

If you can spend a couple of days at home with her then you should be able to master it.

Buy her lots of lovely knickers with her favourite characters on and keep them on her during the day. She needs to be able to feel the wee if she wets herself so that she knows what it is like.

i dont like pull ups because I think it confuses them as it feels like a nappy.

Dont freak if she has an accident but go WAY over the top when she does a wee and reward her.
