Pushchair advice needed

Hi,

I need help regarding what pushchair to use when new baby arrives in October.

My DS will be 3 when the new baby comes. Only problem we have although he is a good walker he constantly runs off, he has global development delay so doesnt really understand instructions why you dont run off from mummy etc! He only started walking at 21 months.

He walks fine in streets, to the park and so on, but shopping is a completely different story as soon as he walks into a shop he is off like a rocket! We have tried reins and wrist straps and all these manage to is get him lying on the floor having a full blown tamtrum, with everybody staring at us!

He is very big for his age at 16.5 kg, and even in his buggy now it is hard to push as he is so heavy.

Really dont know what to do when the new baby comes, any advice anyone??

You could post this in the pushchair section. Sorry i don't have any advice myself. Hope you find something

Would something in the Phil and Teds vain be useful? Alternatively you could get a buggy board for a single push chair. Unfortunately the issue of your child's weight puts it in the heading of unsolvable problems as regardless of the buggy route you choose that is still going to an issue. The only other alternative I can think of is avoiding the shops when you don't have help with you, but that is not necessarily viable.

How does he respond to rewards etc? Could you start 'training' him now (for lack of a better description). If he doesn't run off in the shops, he gets insert something he likes here??

You need a phil and teds. I had 3yo with SN and newborn, it was perfect.
Take my phil and teds if youre in cambs or lincs and want it. Needs new second seat cover though, and handle foam has come off.

If you're loaded, a brand new one would look great!

also, my 3yo was very big for his age, but still needed a pram because of SN.
You need decent sized wheels.
Please don't put yourself through getting a double mclaron or anything like that. Paying out for a strong pram is the best investment you could make right now, trust me.
If not phil and teds, city mini double, theyre really strong and handy.
Or nipper 360 tandem.
Goodluck!

We have a phil and teds, mine are 3 and 11 months. DD1 walks or scoots a lot now but when we're going into town or on a long walk it is invaluable. Sometimes you just need to be able to strap them down!

The beauty of it is when DS outgrows it you can still use it as a single or use the bottom seat for shopping Grin.

Mine was 3 when LO arrived and we had a buggy board as I didn't want to push a double buggy. He swiftly moved on to riding a scooter. October is a long way off - can you start to do some outings now without the buggy ie. over the summer get him used to being without the buggy so he doesn't feel that the baby has pushed him out?

Can you think of ways to do the shopping without him? Swap a morning childcare with a friend? Or give him a job to do in the shop like holding the bag, or the list , maybe make a picture list for 3 items that he has to find - yes, it's a hassle and doesn't always work, but nothing is 100%

Otherwise, lots of friends have Phil & Teds and they seem great!

Hi,

Thanks for the info, we were looking at the phil and teds, but saw the price! would prob get a second hand one if need be, just a question though, how small do they fold, cos we own a corsa! just to make things even more awkward!!

We do try and get him involved in the shopping etc, but has an extremely short attention span and after 5 mins he runs off.

We are trying the whole getting him used to not having a buggy, but it's just not going well, he seems to hate confined spaces, which I think why he is ok walking in the streets but not in busy shopping centres!

they fold well, so it's like 3ft by 2foot flat, because you can just pop the wheels off anyway, with pressing the little buttons.
You'd have the look up exact measurements.

I used to have my baby in the phil and teds as a single pram, then if 3yo DS started playing up, I would take the second seat out of the basket (because it lays flat in shopping undercarriage if you like, clip the seat on and chuck DS1 in. I had alot of old ladies saying 'oooh that's clever' lol
