My baby's tooth has a whole patch of enamel missing :0 It's the 2nd tooth after the front one on the left. He's still breastfeeding but only from one side - the left - and I'm wondering if this has contributed to the rotting. I've never seen anythoing like it. Has anyone else seen such in a baby?

He has the occassional sweet and choc treat every few days but I do brush his teeth although admittedly not every day. Is this really all down to poor oral hygiene do you think?

You could try using an electric tooth brush. My ds (19 mo) used to make a fuss about having his teeth brushed but he likes playing with my electric tooth brush and it makes brushing super quick and effective.

DC3 and DC4 had this too, and the dentist said it was due to poor enamelling whilst in the uterus!
The dentist kept a watch on their milk teeth , and I did attempt to instill good brushing ,but I can now report that at 14 and 12 their adult teeth are perfect, with no fillings at all Grin Grin

Our toothpaste has sugar listed, it's all I can get over here :(

And yes, microabrasion can be performed on babies teeth but it's not recommended as it's cosmetic.

What's with all the swearing here! Am I on Jeremy Kyle?

My dd 7 has problems with the enamel on her teethr teeth and i feel that it was not picked up earlier enugh by dentist, we now go to the hospital and she will have to have some teeth out Sad and tomorrow we have to go to the orthodontist to see if when they do take them out they will be able to close the gaps up.

I am terrified about it Sad and worry she will lose all of her teeth

chocolatespiders · 24/05/2011 23:02

Also we now use the childrens Pronamel toothpaste from boots which they recommended and it has high flouride

monkoray · 26/05/2011 19:01

plinkduet Amazon ship to kenya and they do baby toothpaste with no sugar, you could buy a bulk load cos they can use it for ages. Also Kenya may not put fluoride in their water like they do in the UK which may also be a factor. The milkteeth toothpaste doesn't have fluoride in it cos its difficult to get babies to spit and it isn't good for them to swallow it. Might be worth getting a dentist to advise you on whether an adult toothpaste with fluoride might be a good idea.

My little boys teeth grew through with a horrid looking brown dent right accross the entire row of his top front teeth and two front molars, we had been having to literally force him to clean his teeth, twice a day my husband holding him still and me doing the brushing it was horrible! We took him to see the dentist (which we had to push to get an appointment, three seperate dentists said they usually don't see children until they are 3, we live in UK).

When we finally got in to our dentist who was brilliant, he told us it was very important not to force brushing, but to make sure he gets a flouride toothpaste into his mouth, one that tastes nice e.g. strawberry flavour - and no it won't have sugar in! Let him do it himself as best he can and the friction between the teeth and lips will do the rest, the flouride is the important bit. If you try and force brushing it will only leave them traumatised and much less likely to want to brush in the future.

As for his poor little teeth problem, he said that unless we had given him sugary food and drinks constantly it was unlikely to be that, we most defintely hadn't and wouldn't, he has a heathly diet!! We (the dentist, my husband and I) put it down to enamel hypoplasia following a fall he had when he was 10 months old, before the enamel had formed properly, he was an early walker and took a tumble. He also said that unfortunately there is nothing he can do apart from monitor them and let them fall out naturally when they are ready (they don't cause any discomfort) - I really feel for anyone who has the same problem as us, it looks awful and people are very judgemental! Good luck!

Hi my daughter has this on her front 2 teeth. It looks like huge bits of enamel are missing and it's creamy yellow in colour. My daughter gets her teeth brushed twice a day. Her teeth came through like this and the rest of her teeth are immaculate. Went to 3 dentists, first one had a huge list of foods, that they went through till I agreed my daughter ate at least one. She was tiny and was on baby food, so yoghurt got the blame. The second dentist said that it's just bad luck, no sign of decay anywhere else and that I am doing a good job keeping it to a minimum, but they may need extracted if they decay further. 3 rd dentist agreed kinda with second dentist but said with proper care it won't get worse and should fall out naturally.

Some people like every other part of the body are more prone to ailments, illness than others.

Can I also say that my oldest 2 aged 19 and 12 have immaculate healthy teeth, my 3 rd was I'll as a baby which badly affected her teeth, she had most removed by age 3, now has lovely teeth. Yet I have put more care into my youngest due to her sister having hers removed, yet she had the worst teeth.

How did your daughters permanent teeth come in? My daughter is going through this at the moment she is only 16 months old.

smithdiana924 · 05/02/2016 03:12

How are your little ones teeth? Same thing is happening to my little one!
