Which out of the following nappies should I seriously consider?

Am very keen to do cloth nappies from fairly early on and have been looking at the following:

Pop in Bamboo
Pop in Dream Dri
Tots Bots Easyfit
Tots Bots Bamboozle stretchy (for night time)
Pop 'n' Gro Pocket

This is my first child and I have a washing line and radiators in the house. I have no airing cupboard and no tumble dryer. I'm led to believe that most nappies shouldn't be dried in a tumble dryer anyway.

Can you point me in the right direction as to which I should consider first and whether I should purchase a mix of nappies or would one brand be ok? How many of each do most people start off with?

Many thanks.

Steer clear of Pop in bamboo without a tumble drier, they take a LONG time to dry.

Pop n Go is very bulky

Easyfit is ok, but take quite a long time to dry and I know alot of people who hav very persistent leaks with them.

Stretchies are really good for nighttime (but you wont want to use them full time as take a long time to dry)

Pop in dream dri is just 'ok'. Personally we dont get a good fit with pop ins.

Wow sorry to have so many negative things to say! Have you considered looking at pocket nappies with you not having a tumble drier? These would probably be your best bet (e.g. Bumgenius or Smartipants?)

I sold on all of my pop ins but I haven't seen the latest version .....
Stretchies are great
I like Totsbots easyfits but wouldn't have a full set.
I don't know anything about pop n gro

I love Bumgenius v3/v4 and find them very reliable. You will never find a nappy that everyone likes but BGs consistently come up well in reviews.

Flips are also good - I was sceptical when I first saw them but have grown to really like them.

I have never tumbled my nappies but I do put the bamboo ones in the airing cupboard.

I would get a mix of nappies. I would start with 12-15.
Muslins and a wrap can be good for a newborn or Little lamb size 1s are also good but I am a pocket nappy fan really. These need a wrap on top and the microfibre dry quickly but the bamboo are more absorbant.

The pop'n'gro original birth-to-potty is bulky. The new Version 2 is much much slimmer. But the pop'n'gro pockets are very slim fitting.

Come back to add some more information as I've got more time now!
Out of your list I like the pop'n'gro pockets the best, but they are obviously the most expensive as they come in two sizes. But you could justify the extra cost by thinking that each set of nappies will only get half the amount of wear so will be in much better condition for using on subsequent children or selling on. Plus they will fit so much better on a newborn , and the second size grows to a huge size to fit the chunkiest of toddlers.

Tots Stretchies are a very good idea for night-time as they are very absorbent. They will take a while to dry though, but as long as you are aware of that, and organised it won;t be a problem.

I would prefer Pop-Ins rather than Easifits, although I think both work absolutely fine. I just think Pop-ins are a softer nappy. And I really don't like the Easifit prints, but that's just my opinion!!

But actually, all these nappies that you have narrowed your choice down to, would be really good nappies.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much to you all. I have been trying to read up on them all but I feel like I am getting snowed under with information. I still don't really know what's a pocket nappy and what's not!!

The Tots Bots Stretchie was recommended as a good night time nappy. So I was thinking that it might be good to invest in a couple of those?

I was also recommended Bumgenius v4 by the Nappy lady online which I like the look of. The nappy lady close to me doesn't stock bumgenius though and I wanted to try and keep the sale to a local business. Perhaps I could get a couple of nappies from her and then some bumgenius from the nappy lady online? I'm not that keen on the easi fit prints either.

Am going to study the cheeks and cherries website a bit more and then try and make a decision! Wish me luck!!

We use pop-ins (with the new fleece liiners, agree with earlier poster to avoid the bamboo unless you're happy to tumble dry every time). the micro-fibre ones do dry extremely quickly although you will at least need a clothes' horse or clothes line. I haven't got around to using them again yet with my new baby (3m old) as the baby poo is just too splurgy, but will use them soon. They also are fab for 'growing' with the baby.

TheWaterHorse · 17/05/2011 14:12

I've found the pop-in dream dri to be remarkably absorbant for the size of them on my heavy wetter and they're very trim.

I also use stretchies at night, but do need to boost them heavily at the moment (but dd is 11 mo and still feeding at night). They have never leaked though, even when soaking. They do take a long time to dry - right now they are taking about 48 hours as it's wet outside and I don't have the heating on. But - my house is quite cold and washing seems to take a long time to dry anyway, so may not be so bad elsewhere. With a stash of 10, we managed to use them at nights when dd was using 2 or 3 a night, and now we're down to 1 a night so it's not a problem at all.

Other day time nappies that we like include bumgenius V3, smartipants and itti bitti SIO (but we only get a good fit with these part of the time, so not a great option for everyone).

Cheeks and Cherries have some lovely stuff....we have a couple of issy bears from there which are a bit bulky but very absorbant and lovely patterns...

NappyShedSal · 17/05/2011 23:05

I don't like Bumgenius much - they don't fit tiny babies well and lots of toddlers outgrow them before they are potty trained. Plus there are nappies with much softer linings than the Bumgenius. The pop'n'gro pocket that you mentioned earlier is much softer, and a much much better fit at all times.

mummynutter · 18/05/2011 11:50

The sizing of the bumgenius was changed to last bigger infants longer, but there are nappies I prefer to them. I use my Smarti pants much more because they are slimmer, have stronger poppers and wash and wear much better.

mummynutter · 18/05/2011 11:50

Oh and they dry quicker too
