How young is too young to not offer an alternative at mealtimes?

DD is 14mo and getting quite fussy about food. She will only feed herself, either with hands or she has just learnt to use a fork...the only exception is yoghurt or weetabix which I am allowed to feed her.
At the moment if she doesn't eat what I make her I don't make anything else and assume she's not hungry...is she too young to do this? DH seems to think I should just give her something I know she'll eat.
Comments welcome, thanks.

I do a mean shepherd's pie with loads of "hidden veg": tomatoes, onions, carrots, spinach in the mince base, carrots and/or neeps and/or parnips in the mash, and served with peas. Grin

Online stockist here. You can slip powders into virtually anything. I also puree carrots and add to pasta sauce the DCs love all sorts of pasta based meals and homemade pizza, and they get more than they think they are getting. You can hide a multitude of different flavours in chili, and shepherd's pie too. Quinoa provides a lot of protein and fibre and can be eaten as a porridge (nice with chopped fruits and nuts on top) and also used (precooked use leftover quinoa porridge) in something like meatloaf or meatballs.
