Urinary tract infection in 4 year old

hi
My daughter aged 4 has got a UTI. The doctor has prescribed antibiotics but also wants her to have a renal ultrasound and further investigations. She says that it is standard policy and that with a first UTI that is what is done. I've not heard of this before and was wondering if anyone could shed any light. I thought antibiotics clears it up and am slightly surprised she wants her to see straight away
Thanks

I'm in Ireland, and DD1 only did additional tests after several UTIs.
My daughter turned out to have VUR, a bladder reflux, and has some scar tissue on her right kidney. All under control now, but we get yearly monitoring.

Renal ultrasound will show general condition of the kidneys, size and whether there is any scaring. It is like a maternity ultrasound, totally non-invasive.

Antibotics will clear up an UTI. Especially if the urine was sent to lab and antibiotic selected on basis of lab results.

nice guideline here

I understand that that usually investigate if unusually unwell if if recurrent UTI, not for a single straightforward episode.

DD had one when she was 2, they said if she had another they would do a scan etc.

DD had a uti at about 3 years which was treated with antibiotics nothing else was done. When she was about 7 or 8 she got a kidney infection. On that occasion she got an appointment at the hospital for a scan etc. Fortunately no damage was found and we just have to encourage her to drink plenty.
