I have a 13 yo and a 14 yo. They don't need to be told to brush their teeth (and didn't aged 12) but they often don't think to brush their hair (and it is long) and no, they always need to be told to take a shower, use deodorant, sometimes even to change their clothes (though not underwear, socks).

Smelly things, boys, aren't they?

My son is almost 12 and I have to tell him every morning and night to brush his teeth. Also have to fight with him to have a shower every day. My daughter (10) only showers every other day, but my son's feet stink!

AuntieMonica · 11/05/2011 15:35

they aren't 12 any longer, but yes, this does seem par for the course.

the eldest especially thought a squirt of lynx and shrug would last him all week

make it part of the daily routine, ask every day 'have you done your teeth?' then make them go and do it

the next phase is usually a swing way over and they aren't out of the bathroom for hours Confused

My dd didn't need reminding of basic hygiene at 12
My ds is nearly 12 and his performance in this department is very patchy indeed

SpringHeeledJack · 11/05/2011 15:47

I have a 13 yo ds

he has to be frogmarched to shower/bath, have his toothpaste put on his brush (so he can't say "but I did it*") etc etc- as for hair brushing- fugghedaboudid!

his friends call him "Creasy Boy"

now worse with shower as they watched the* bit of Psycho in English last week. He has to take one of his 7yo sisters upstairs with him as he's rigid with terror

oh bobbins. one of those *s was sposed to be an asterisk

I have 2.

They are mostly pretty good with hygiene, no need to remind about teeth, hair etc.. In fact the hair is styled so they can be a bit over the top. I do have to ask about the shower unless they are obviously sweaty.

DD 1o lives in the bloody shower and is forever doing her hair Grin
