In an attempt to keep my car I?m looking for a high backed booster for my 3 year old to go in back of a 2004 Audi TT. He?s 17kg so group 2 at the moment. Ideally I want isofix given I have the fittings in the back.
Because I?m tall and he has to go behind me I?m looking for the shallowest (front to back) option so as I can still drive. I?ve found the Britax Kidfix at 43cm and the normal Britax Kid is 41cm. The kidfix to me seems a better bet being isofix. Surely anything clamped on to the chassis is the safer option. Trouble is there seems to be some legislation which means all isofix seats have to be tested to check suitability to a car, whereas non isofix high back boosters seem to be tested at the discretion of the retailer. Is this correct?
I?ve contacted Britax to which I get the following response:
The Kidfix is not approved to be used in your vehicle. This may be due to the head support not being able to be fully extended because of the low roof level.
However, Britax suggest on their own website the use of the Kidfix which would come with the same problems of head supports.
I tried the kidfix in my car and it felt sturdy and safe. I couldn?t extend the headrest fully, but I didn?t want to as my little one is only 3, hence on that basis I'd be happy to put in the car.
What are peoples thoughts?
