Newbie needing brand advice

I realise this has been done to death but.... Grin

I want to use reusables - the best option to my naive eye are AIO, one-size, in a multi pack (saving aroung £60).

For this reason I was going for either Itti Bitti tuttos or Bumgeniuses.

The advice I have from a friend is get several different brands and see which you like, however I want to crack on from day 1 and needing around 20 nappies it seems like a waste of 1/4 to 2/3 of the nappies if I decide I prefer using one brand over the rest. My (naive) view is if I only have one brand I will know no difference Grin

Any advice?

I initially bought a set of one type of nappy and stuck with them, but I had friends who used reusables and I went and looked through their stash to see what I liked and would be happy to use. It worked out fine, I used a 2 part nappy and wrap system for about 10 months and then changed to a pocket nappy system from then on (and with baby2).
Have you got any friends who could show you all the different types and chat about which they like? Or a cloth nappy store nearby that might to a hire/try service?
These online shops do hire trials, try these www.babykind.co.uk/nappytrial.htm and realnappyshop.co.uk/Trial.aspx

Also, both times I've given myself a few weeks post-birth of using disposables. It means they have finished the meconium poos before they start in reusables and you will be over the initial 'shit I have a baby to look after' shock of the first few weeks before the laundry starts Wink !

Thanks - am off to a 'Nappuccino' demo on Saturday which I think talks through the options and shows you a few types!

that sounds like a good idea, makes a big difference to actually see the nappies, I would suggest a nappy trial as well, I did one with www.plushpants.co.uk and found it did help and although I intended to buy all one kind I did end up getting 3 different kinds in the end and the ones I thought I'd like I didn't get on with all that well.

mind you I know what you mean about getting on with it from day one, if you start as you mean to go on, but seeing them will help you decide, if the baby is likely to be small btw (under 8lbs) you will probably find the one size nappies rather bulky at first, I couldn't get a good fit on these until my baby was about 3 months old but then again I had some size 1 nature babies bamboo lovables so nothing else was going to come up quite so neat!

On the subject of nappy trials, fill your pants have started a new one which you get all new nappies in (not seen anything like that before where the nappies arent pre-loved?)
Might be worth checking out as it seems a good deal! www.fill-your-pants.com/cloth-nappy-trial/nappy-trial.html Definately recommend trying or at least seeing before you buy as it will help a lot.
Lots of places have discounts at the moment too for RNW so time to stock up!

Hey vallinna .

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of Tots Bots or Bumgeniuses. I too am keen to get going straight away and not to faff about trying lots out if there's a reasonably reliable brand I can just use (and not know any different from).

Any advice either on brands or on general use for another first-timer?
