A question about baby ear defenders...

Hello!

I know they've been discussed before, so I was wondering if I can draw on your experience.

We've got a couple of weddings to go to next month when our pfb DS will be 2 months old.

I'm hoping he'll be happy to sleep in the pram on & off all day, including at the receptions. However I'm a little concerned for his ears (our wedding was v loud in a small room!), and was thinking about getting some baby ear defenders (which I saw on 3/4yr olds at a wedding last summer!).

Will they be suitable for a 2 month old?
AIBU to even consider that we'll be able to go to the reception with him?!

Any other suggestions welcome! Thanks!

Ds2 has those (he has asd and is noise sensitive), I don't think they would fit on a 2 month old, they'd be the ame size as their head! a 2 month old would be very unomfortable wearing them, and they'd be heavy on their head.

They do block out a lot of noise though, incase you wanted to try them.

I would personally not tae a 2 month old to a wedding, not a whole day thing anyway.

Huh? How loud was your wedding? Oli had baby ear defenders on at the Manx grand prix at 3 months and they fit him fine

We have some, but I'm fairly sure they say that they are not for babies under 6 months old as they are quite springy and would put too much pressure on their head.

We got ours for wedding receptions too, but DD was 1 by the time she wore them.

I've seen tinies in them at festivals and bought a set for my godson when we went to Cambridge at about 6 months - it's keeping them on that's the trouble (he doesn't "do" hats either)

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 02/05/2011 20:05

Where do you buy them?

RustyBear · 02/05/2011 20:16

Neither of mine were keen on loud noises when they were toddlers, but I don't remember them being very worried when they were really tiny - once they were off they would sleep through any amount of background noise.

DD would have liked those kid's ones in pink on fireworks night when she was small - I just used to put a pair of adult ones on her she did look cute though...

At that age I'm pretty sure they would sleep through any noise. Try and find a quietish corner at the reception, put the hood up on the pram/pushchair and angle him away from the noise

DS (aged 5 months) slept through a very loud fireworks display whilst in a front carrier.

We went to a wedding when dc3 was 3 weeks old. There was a 4 month old baby there with ear defenders.

Sorry but I PMSL Grin

Sorry I should have said a 4 month old PFB (with no special needs) with ear defenders.

PaperView · 02/05/2011 20:37

We have those very ones fr DS2 (noise issues) and then used for DS3 in v noisy environments.

We used them from v young but i don't think it was 2 months. More like 5/6.

PaperView · 02/05/2011 20:38

YOu can get them from Amazon. Just search Peltor Ear Defenders. Make sure you order the kids ones tho ;)

Petalouda · 03/05/2011 13:05

Thanks for all the info.

This is definite, unashamed PFB-ness! I'm sure he'll sleep through most of it (except possibly the ceremony, when I'll be doing bridesmaid duty, but that's because he's awkward & stubborn like his mummy!).

Olibean - our wedding reception was quite loud, we had an amazing band in a relatively small barn. I'd be worried about his tiny little precious ears hearing in a situation like that. However, at least one of the weddings we're going to won't be quite that raucus! The other may well be though!

I suppose, realistically, I'm not going to be physically capable of surviving the whole day & night affair anyway, so it's probably not worth worrying about!

Don't worry - I am a bit PFBish about dc4! Grin
