Getting a mirena coil fitted today

I'm getting a mirena coil fitted today and would appreciate any advice on what to expect. I have gotten the mirena and 2 cytotec tablets (supposed to relax the vagina) and 2 ponsten (for pain) I know I take the cytotec 1-2 hrs before my apt but do I take a ponsten then or wait till later?

Also anyone's experiences of the mirena coil would be appreciated so I know what to expect afterwards!

Thanks

I wasn't given any special painkillers Angry and was just told to take paracetamol an hour beforehand.

The bit that they said would hurt didn't at all, however the bit they never mentioned hurt like fuck and I wanted to punch the GP in the head (the tampenade bit I think) and then cried afterwards when I was on my own Blush. She said it hurt because I am still breastfeeding, so it might not hurt you if you're not.

It's been a few months now and other than a random massive spot on my neck (in almost exactly the same place) every month just before my period it's totally fine. I was a bit weepy for a couple of weeks but nothing drastic. Periods much better, both in terms of pain and volume.

Good luck!

I had the copper coil fitted a couple of weeks ago and was told to take ibuprofen before the appointment. Mirena is supposed to be easier to fit but everyone is different.

The worst bit rather than the fitting was being 'measured' for the coil, the actually fitting itself was ok, though the doctor had to faff about with two as the first one was too big and wouldn't go in. It was all a bit uncomfortable and crampy but nothing very painful. Have had worse dental work, put it that way! I did ache a lot afterwards though for 12 h and just took ibuprofen regularly. After a night's sleep it was fine, but then I had a (cramp free) period for about 5 days - probably due to coming off the pill. Since then it's been great, but I'll report back after my first 'proper' period.

I found it painful but the doctor said I was very good and didn't tense up like most people? I think it was the clamp on the cervix which was uncomfortable and a little 'pinch' when they attached it. Had it fitted 15th Feb been bleeding ever since..... Think I'm in the minority though! I too was only told to take a paracetamol 1 hour beforehand.
