I am a new mum and since I gave birth I have been gradually losing the use of my arms. I have had repetitive strain injury for years but never this bad. I cannot pick up my baby, push a push chair, hold a bottle, cook, wash up/clothes,etc.

I wondered whether anybody has any tips for bringing up a babyin these circumstances? I'm breast-feeding at the moment (without arms!)but need any advice ontechniques orequipment I could use to overcome some of the barriers. My baby will be weaning soon and I'm absolutely dreadingthe future.

Hi, didn't want your post to go unanswered, though I have use of one arm.

Are you seeing an Occupational therapist for help with assistive devices ? Your gp can refer you if not - the one I saw was very helpful.

Your hand specialist might be able to put you in touch with a local support group - an RA one would be good as they tend to be young women. My physio found one for me so I could talk to someone about having your wrist fused

Hi,

I am a Psychologist and a disabled parent who is fed up of the lack of help on daily parenting tasks for disabled people. I have decided to take control of this and drag the UK into 2011 and write a blog on high street baby equipment that has disabled parents with limb limitations in mind, eg, easy brands of nappies with easy fastens for those of us with weak grip, easy seats/high chairs for children. I shall be blogging shortly about cots and buggies, two bug bearers I feel of disabled parents. You do not need special aid equipment costing thousands, my blog makes parents aware that the solutions are available on either the high street stores or good old e-bay! Take a look and feel free to join in on the blog if you have any tips for other parents with physical difficulties.
