Padded bras for young girls, ok or not.

I know this is a hot topic but want to know some different points of views. Dd (10 in 9 days time) is fast getting to the stage were we will need to be thinking bras.

Chicken fillets wonder-bra = no.
Thick enough to cover nipples = yes.

Simples.

only at the point they need an actual bra and then for modesty/squishing purposes (my dd's reasons LOL)

Was thinking padded like a t-shirt bra might be.

When do they need a bra? Er, when they get breast buds, no? I was wearing a bra at 9, after my mum finally gave in. Please let her have one if she has anything beyond a flat chest. Lightly padded for protection/modesty yes. They are hardly a push up wonderbra are they.

I don't get all this hyperbole. I really don't.

Wouldn't say dd flat chested but crop tops yes, bras don't think she would fill one yet. Was thinking modesty as in the heat her nipples become very swollen and are now sticking out that you can see them through her tops.

Look at the Angel range in M&S. DD1 has had their padded foam bras since she started secondary school and they are ideal for coverage. She is nearly 14 now and has gone from AA to B cup seemingly overnight, but is still quite happy to choose from that range rather than move on to more 'grown-up' styles.

Madame DS - the foam ones are not 'padded' as such, just quite thick compared to normal fabric bras. I doubt teasing would be an issue as the majority of girls seem to wear them. It was quite startling when DD1 first wore one though!

It's great to see that padded/moulded bra are seen as fine for devolping girls. Really was thinking I was a bad mum to even think padded/moulded bras for dd.

So the next thing is where do you get bra that are not very brightly coloured that show through everything therefore defeating the point of having padded bras.

Another vote for M&S Angel, which are padded in an "age appropriate, nipple covering" way

M&S look good but are they any good when it comes to measuring for first bras.

I've been having exactly the same dilemma this week. DD is only 12 but wearing a 30B. (She has been measured). It is SO difficult to find an adult-sized bra that is essentially for a child. I ended up getting her a pack of 2 non-wired T-shirt bras from M& S but they do make her look a bit bigger. She is very slim and she looks all bust! I cant say I'm very happy about it. She doesn't seem bothered so I haven't projected my concerns onto her.
If anyone knows where I can find unpadded bras in that size I would be very grateful?!

administrator, look in bigger M&S stores for the Angel teenage range....... agree, the adult bras are too padded, but pubescent girls need some padding as nipples/buds can be very protruding during development stages........George@Asda used to do perfect teen/pre-teen bras but have withdrawn, much to my DD's disgust! DD is 34B and 13, find the M&S Angel range very age appropriate (if way more expensive than I pay for my own bras)

I was unfortunately a 30DD at 12/13 onwards. I would have loved to have been a 30B. I had a lot of ishoos, which are now mostly resolved thankfully.

tiny bit of padding is fine, bit more than a t-shirt thickness, chaffed nipples hurt!

Dd's come from M&S and yes as others have said the light padding is v useful. I measured the chest size myself for her (was buying a dress from mini Boden at same time) and then started off with AA, we've now moved on to A. I would like her to go and get fitted but she is very shy about this so I think measuring and checking myself is the best I can do. No red markes, ni riding up, no ooozing out - so think we're doing ok.

Thanks lilo, just looking online now and these look perfect, especially as DD2 is just starting to sprout!! I've never seen these before, obviously don't live near a big enough M&S!

Of course it is acceptable! When I was a kid at the age of 10, going out the house with my nips showing through my top was far out of my comfort zone! When I finally plucked up the courage to ask my mother if I could wear I bra I was almost 13. I wished my Mum would have asked me...
