What do you do with your 10 month old?

Not clubs so much as basic day to day stuff.

DD plays on the floor with her toys in the morning while we eat breakfast, do housework etc. The same happens just before bathtime. She also watches some TV whilst playing. We go out in the pram at least once a day and I talk to her, point things out etc (although this is by no means a running commentary). Now the weather has improved we sometimes sit on a blanket in the park and she eats grass investigates things around her. She has a bath every night where we play with toys.

I'm aware that I'm not spending loads of time just one on one playing with toys. She's my first child and I'm very inexperienced with babies, should I be doing more?

Nope, you're doing fine! At 10 months I would put my son in his bouncy chair and he'd bounce while watching me do housework or what have you.

Even now, at 22 months, I rarely get down on the floor and play with him. Partly because I have bad joints and it hurts and partly because when I do feel pain free enough to try, he doesn't want to play with me! He's doing his own thing!

When my DS was 10 months (last sumer) he was very mobile - really fast crawler and cruising round everything.
I didn't do a huge amount of one to one play. One thing he did enjoy was me stacking up the stacking cups so he could knock them down. I also used to hold the post of the stacking rings and he'd try and put the rings on the post - not very effectively but he seemed to enjoy it.
In the summer we bought a paddling pool and he enjoyed splashing about in that.
But he was quite an independent baby and was quite happy pottering around on his own so i often did just leave him to play as you do. He's 18 months now and doesn't seem to have suffered for it - still very independent and happy.

I was just about to post the same question!

My daughter plays on the floor in the morning whilst I get ready/have breakfast/some chores. Sometimes I sit with her and play with her, sometimes I'm busy doing things.

We go for a walk every day, groups three times a week.

It's very hard keeping them entertained in the house when they're mobile, and they are not walking yet so are stuck in the buggy if you're out.

Her favourite thing just now is pulling all of my books out of the bookcase Hmm and eating them

If anyone has any cheap and cheerful ideas I would love to hear them!

Yes, I find entertaining her really difficult, as she's very often a grumpy madam who can't decide whether she wants to be picked up or put down! She can't crawl yet so gets hugely frustrated.

Glad to know other mums aren't doing superhuman play activities, I think I posted because I feel a bit guilty about doing the stuff I find easiest, like pushing the pram round the park!

Don't forget to read to her.

And sing songs with actions. Or any songs really.

My 8 month old won't sit still or even pretend to pay attention while I read to him - so would you just sit there reading aloud like a billy until the day he decides to take an interest? I feel a bit daft doing that (plus it's not like his stories are that engrossing to me).

I think I will just start reading Terry Pratchett aloud every day whether ds listens or not...

Sounds like you are doing fine- DD2 is 10 months and I feel guilty sometimes that I've spent a lot less one on one time with her than I did with DD2 at that age. But she is very happy to amuse herself, she especially likes having a box full of things she can take out, she's currently playing with her sister's box of play food and plastic tea set. Now that she can crawl she also likes to follow me to the kitchen and empty all the plastic containers out of the cupboard!

Shinymoon, at this age touchy feely books are good, we love the 'that's not my monster' type books. But if he's not interested don't worry!
