10 month old still not cruising...

DD2 is 10 months. She has only just started crawling and shows no interest in pulling herself up or cruising. I know they all develop at their own rate, but she doesn't even seem to want to put any weight on her legs when I stand her up, they just go floppy.

Should I be worried? Even in the 'what to expect' book, it says she should be pulling herself up by now. I asked the HV and she kind of fobbed me off and said there was a very slight chance it might be a problem with her hips, but that she would be in pain if that was the case, so would be crying if you tried to stand her up. She doesn't seem to be in any pain by it, she just doesn't really want to!

DD1 was nearly walking by this age, so it's a bit strange to me!

In 5 yrs time, will this matter? In 20 yrs, will people be able to tell that she walked early/late? My late mother was adamant that I walked at 10 mths, which I doubt, and that DS not walking till 15mths was abnormal. Walking at 10mths has not made me an Olympic athlete, DS walking at 15 mths has done him no harm at all. She will walk when she walks.

crikey my 11 month old is nowhere near it and it hadn't occurred to me to be worried.

I'm not bothered if she's just late, it was a right PITA having an early walker with DD1! I'm just worried in case it means there's something wrong. It's not so much that she's not walking, but she doesn't put any weight on her legs or try and pull hereslf up, which all the other babies of her age I know are doing by now.

One friend's ds, 6 wks older than ds, was cruising at 7mo and walking at 8mo - it was a nightmare. Ds walked at 14.5mo - by then he'd learned what 'careful' and 'mind your head' meant which was very helpful. Oh - and he was running confidently on day two of walking.

justventingreally · 20/04/2011 17:44

Only a problem if they can't weight bear at all, AFAIK. Many babies aren't crusing at 10 mo.

Pancakeflipper · 20/04/2011 17:49

Stop worrying. One of mine was 16 months the other 14 months. Neither can sit still now.

quickchat · 20/04/2011 19:27

DS didn't sit until 10 months! Didn't weight bare on his legs really. Didn't crawl until 13.5 months, shortly after he started cruising and finally walked at 17 months. It never struck me as that unusual at the time and I never worried about it.

DD started crawling at 10 months and cruising around 11/12. I was Shock!

She walked by 13. 5 months - damit!

I think whatever you have the first time you are shocked the second is so different. In my case it was the other way around so maybe if Id had DS second Id be panicking by now.

The fact she can crawl already is a very good sign she has strenth in her legs and co-ordination.

Enjoy the peace while it lasts!

DD didnt crawl until a year. She cruised at about 15 months.

One day at 17 months old she just got up and walked. And that was it. She never wobbled and fell over or took baby steps. She just walked Grin

Bunbaker · 20/04/2011 19:33

"Should I be worried?"

No. absolutely not. DD was only just sitting up unaided by then, and there is nothing wrong with her. It isn't a competition.

C0smos · 20/04/2011 19:39

Nope my DS didn't even crawl until 13 months, he got there in the end as they all do

manchestermummy · 20/04/2011 20:09

DD1 didn't even pull up until she was nearly one. But walked a month after that.

Don't worry at all - all sounds fine.

Thank you all, you've put my mind at rest! She is definitely a lot more chilled than DD1, clearly just likes to do things at her own pace Smile
