Wraps?

I was at a friend's house the other day and DS did a poo. I hadn't thought to bring any nappies with me and her baby is much younger, but luckily as she uses reusables she was able to lend me one of the Flips one size nappies. I'd used reusables for a bit when DS was tiny but given up when he started crawling as they just leaked everywhere, but the one I used the other day was brilliant. He's now 2.6 but I'm feeling a longing to try again with cloth now! I just wonder if it will be worth it as he's likely to potty train soon. (I hope, anyway, since he's due to start preschool at 3.3) But OTOH, he's not showing any signs of being ready to train yet, cloth is supposed to help with potty training, and I am still spending out on nappies in the meantime. I have a load of prefolds and some large cotton squares which I never used, too. Could I use these with wraps or are they meant to be used with inserts like the bumgenius ones?

DS loved it though, today he asked for "blue one" again. I want to try again with pretty cloth :( I'd be happy to buy second hand as well. Do you think it's worth it?

Might you be having more children in the future? If so, then it'll def be worth it if they work for you. We're on our 3rd child with pop-in re-usables. Not sure they'd stretch to a fourth too, but great value so far...

I use prefolds with wrap - either littlelamb or bambino mio - but my two are only 6mo, although dt2 is crawling commando style. never have a leak, although they do leak (poo) sometimes in disposables which we use at night.

all mine are second hand from clothnappytree.

Flips, Weehuggers and Gen Y universal wraps have all been designed with flaps that mean you can sit in pad style inserts. The first two brands do have their own make but you can easily interchange them and Gen Y are talking about making their own pad style insert. You can easily put in your own pad by trifolding a prefold to make the right shape. I'm sure you could do the same with cotton squares. The flip covers are great as they are one size whereas Weehuggers and Gen Y are available in two sizes but at 2.6 he will need the bigger size so it's irrelevant for you.
Wraps like these are quite reasonable on sites like cloth nappy tree and you could probably get away with only a few wraps 4-6 as you can just wipe down after wees and wash when soiled, the Flip dries really quickly so you can always do a hand wash or put them in with a clothes wash if you need a quick turnaround.
Weehuggers take a bit longer to dry as they have fabric parts to hold in the pads.
Rumparooz have also lauched wraps in this style but there aren't many in the UK yet as they were only launched earlier this year so you won't see many second hand ones yet.
