Wide, presure fit babygate?

Our appartment was lovely pre-DS - all open plan and minimalist with big open plan living room/dining room/kitchen. You can guess where this is going. Now DS is starting to crawl it is a nightmare!

I am looking for a babygate so that he can't crawl into the kitchen area. It needs to be pressure fit (as one side will fit on a wall whilst the other will fit on the side of kitchen cupboards thus can't be screw fit) and it needs to be approx 250cm wide.

I can find playpens that open up but they are all screw fit. I can find pressure gates but they are no wider than about 140cm. Does anyone know of a suitable gate? Surely we can't be the only people with an open plan living room/kitchen Grin

Thank you!

That's a tough one. We have a screw fit Kiddyguard over our wide opening between our kitchen and lounge. I don't think there is anything on the market (having looked myself) in the pressure fit for extra wide openings. I know that doesn't help you!

However, I thought I would post because in reality, we very rarely use the gate (it's a roller blind style that tucks away). I know it feels like you need a gate now your DS is crawling but do you actually?

Why not invest in a Jumperoo for the kitchen? Put baby locks on key cupboards and then nominate a couple of cupboards where your DS is allowed to play (cat food and tupperware can keep my DS busy for ages and he is now 16 mo). Now at 16 mo my DS has just about grasped the concept that he can go in some cupboards and not others. Obviously all toxic cleaners are well out of reach!

That's what we did anyway. As I said, we rarely shut the gate because it causes to much hassle with DS crying on the other side. Although it does get shut at breakfast so that the cats don't have a nervous break down while they're eating their breakfast!

Hope this helps :-) Probably not the answer you were looking for?

Would the bettacare one be a solution?

Ah we had exactly that same problem and added in the fact that the wall to kitchen cupboard was not a standard size, the answer is 'BabyDan Premier Indicator Gate' with the 'Extend 'A' Gate' (official product names according to the two User Guides I just fished out!). Cant remember where we brought them from but it was online in the UK.

TBH the pp is kinda right, we only used this gate for about 6 / 8 mths and not religeously, the best thing for the kitchen IMO is a Fun Pod - that way you dont have to put up with the crying child on the other side of the gate and can get them involved in food prep / washing up etc all while they are contained and safe - brilliant product!!!!

We did use a standard gate (didnt need the extensions) for the top of the stairs so he could roam up there without me having heart failure and DS's room once he was in the toddler bed and a bit of a monkey with coming out a million times a night.
