Have read 2 and 5 variously. Does anyone know?
Thanks Smile

I think it's 2. Unless the child is not gaining weight, in which case keep them on full fat for a while longer.

I believe that from 2 they can have semi-skimmed, but I haven't taken this as meaning that they have to. My DS is quite small and I reckon he can use all the help he can get, so he's still on the full fat at nearly 3 and probably will be for a very long time. After all, 'full' fat milk is only 4%, so it's hardly a fatty drink, is it?!

2 years (used to be 5)

We still have full fat, DD is 7 and i managed to use her as an excuse long after she needed it.

We all eat healthily otherwise, a little of what you fancy does you good.

Not helpful, I know, sorry.

SingingSands · 13/04/2011 11:31

Mine are still drinking full fat at 3 and 7, and I like it too, so will probably continue for a good while yet!

WreckoftheHesperus · 13/04/2011 11:33

DD is a normal weight, and hasn't said anything on the odd occasion that she's had semi-skinned.

DP and I would benefit from the whole lower fat thing. I read somewhere that there is more calcium in semi; don't know if that's true?

Oh dear - my 3 are still drinking full fat at 9, 8 and 4!

Does it matter or should they have semi-skimmed now?

MissingMySleep · 13/04/2011 12:21

mine are 8 and 5, we are all on full fat cos apparently its chokka with more omega whatsits

everyone in the house is skinny, except me, so we go full fat all the way, thinking its healthier and I will just have to get off my butt and exercise

also I raid the piggy bank and go for organic to get extra helthy bits in it I hope - they both have a pint a day (half pint warm milk first thing and last thing at night)

I asked my Mum (she who knows everything) how long do you give the babies milk for, and she replied, for as long as they will drink it..

I say go full fat, and if anyone starts getting porky, then cut out the biscuits not the fat milk, and get them outdoors a bit more

We have never gone to semi-skimmed.
And unless you are mainlining it as adults I don't see the need either, unless you prefer the taste.

quickchat · 13/04/2011 20:43

We (DH and I) drink semi so I just give it to DS nearly 4 and have done since he was around 2.5. Now I have DD 16 months and I keep forgetting to give her the full fat Blush. Is there a problem with giving a baby semi then?

MissingMySleep · 13/04/2011 20:54

There is no problem giving a baby semi, its just there is more good stuff in the full fat. There is still good stuff in the semi :)
