Toddler vomiting every other day - just a tummy bug?

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

My dd is nearly 3 and for the last week she has eaten fairly well but has been sick at around 6pm every other day (3 times).
Last night she complained of having a "big tummy" and whimpered several times in the night. This morning she had a little milk then was sick again.

She hasn't eaten much today and has fallen asleep.

Just a bug... or should I call the docs?

All advice and suggestions appreciated.

If it's been ongoing (even intermittently) for a week, I would definitely call the dr.

I'm not a medical expert, but I would have thought that tummy bugs manifest themselves with more regular vomiting, but don't last as long.

Thanks NoWay
Does NHS direct still exist? Not sure if has been cut?

It did a couple of months ago, but not sure! If it does, it's 0845 4647. HTH!

Doesn't sound like a bug. They tend to last 24-38 hours.
I think a trip to the gp is in order.
Does she suffer from constipation? As it can sometimes causes vomiting, because of the pressure.
Has she developed an intolerance to some food that is causing the vomiting? You might need to keep a diary.

Thanks for responding.
We tend to give her goats milk as she didn't take to cows milk early on. Lately we've given her more cows - so we've gone back to goat again now.

She's not constipated, just normal.

She has be crouching down occasionally saying her tummy hurts and has a cough.

wierdly is could be a uti (wee infection) - vomiting and wierd patterns are a classic sign. definitely get her checked out.

It seems to be connected with drinking milk (cow or goat) so we are (trying) to have a couple of day off it (though bed time and morning could be interesting).
May have to go for very dilute to see if that is a manageable compromise.

UTI - hmmm - someone else mentioned this. Are there normally other signs - she is peeing without a problem on the potty.

Give her a rest from all dairy for a few days and see if that helps?

Are you giving her small amounts of plain, starchy foods? She may just be trying to recover from a bug but protein/fat/dairy-rich foods are not helpful when trying to get over a stomach virus.

If it goes on for more than another day or two I would definitely take her to GP.

Yes, thanks for posting though, keeping things very simple - no cramps so far today.

Just in case anyone is searching the same problem.... 48hours without any dairy (cow or goat) seems to have helped - she is now back to her bubbly giggly cheeky self.
Phew.

Thanks to all who posted.
