Hi, feeling a bit isolated and would like to know if there are any older parents around?
DW and self are mature parents with a first (and only) child and finding a lot of prejudice. Anyone met this?

quickchat - I'm in Ireland.

At 45, sometimes I look my age, most of the time, I don't (I hope!)
I may be guaging the age of the other moms incorrectly, I know there are at least a few who are similar age to me, but most look to be 30-35..

Might help if I put on a bit of slap during the week - but can't be bothered to get up earlier just to do makeup...

Am very surprised MCos as I have always known lots of older parents in Ireland tho maybe not quite so many now as in previous generations as the families have got smaller. Certainly 20 years ago noone would have blinked at someone having kids at 40 as many would have had parents who were that age when they had them. My gran had my dad (her first) at the age of 31 and went on to have 9 more and that was very common then and was the same when I was younger too and certainly none of my sisters over there seem to blink an eyelid at people having kids at 35/40.

Weirdly I am always being asked when I am having another as I'm apparently still young yet at 40.

Hi
Where are you geographically? How old is your child? We are in a similar position and would love to meet up.
Our son is 9.

Not at all. Gave birth to DS when I was 35 and I don't seem to be that unusual where I live. The school gate crowd (who I don't meet much because I work) are not teenagers. What sort of prejudice are you getting?

Come on over to 40 Towers.

I had my son at 40 and am a youngster over there! Come say hi, we'd love to talk to you.

I had DD, my only child, when I was two months shy of 38. I've never experienced any negative comments or raised eyebrows, to be honest, but then many of the mums in my NCT classes were mid 30s so we weren't that different.

Age is even less of a factor now DD is at preschool as quite a few of her classmates have 40+yo mothers as they are second- or third-born children.
