Sleeping baby/dirty nappy

DD's recently been ill and has completely forgotten how to go off to sleep herself for a nap. Just now she was really tired and bellowing in her cot so I gave in and popped on her the boob.

As soon as she latched on she calmed down and it wasn't long before I realised she had a dirty nappy.

What should I have done? She's so bad at sleeping I can easily spend 4 hours a day trying to get her to sleep/keep her asleep so the idea of disturbing her when she was finally settling was awful.

She's also at the stage where nappy changes are rarely done lying down because she's such a wriggler, so if I had changed it she'd have been screaming and crawling away from me making getting back to sleep even harder.

She'll probably only sleep for half an hour now and obviously I'll wash her as soon as she's awake.

Am I terrible?

Leave it. She'll be fine.

Give her a bath when she wakes up. She'll probably enjoy it and it'll put her in a good mood.

I agree, leave it. I used to leave DD as she was a terrible sleeper and she didn't seem to mind. DS on the other hand hates having a dirty nappy and will cry and wake up.

If she's uncomfortable, she'll let you know!

I'm another one for leave her...Smile

I've done this in the past. I just let them have bare bum time for a while afterwards.

Honeybee79 · 05/04/2011 09:40

Leave it. I've done so under these circumstances.

Thank you all.

She's not too sensitive so nappy rash is never a problem.

Seeker I laughed at the irony of your comment; she currently HATES baths so I have to chase her with a wet flannel!
