One year check up - were you contacted about this or did YOU make the appointment?

I don't know if I'm being really stupid about this or what...DD is 13 months old. All my antenatal friends (who don't live in quite the same area as me) were sent a letter by their HV for their child to attend a 8-12 month developmental check up.
I never got any letter, and forgot about it tbh, but seeing some of them today I thought about it again since I know she is due for some immunisations around now and don't want her to get left out of the system iyswim.
I have no concerns about her development/health.
I will be phoning GP on Monday to ask about jabs...but in the meantime just wondered if anyone else got contacted about one year checks etc without having to remember to make the appointment themselves?
And with the jabs - I'm sure I got a letter for her 8/12/16 week ones.

Thanks v much.

(am pregnant atm so that is my excuse if I am just being crap)

I think it depends on area. The last time anyone saw DD was her last lot of jabs (she's now 3.2) and I didn't even get a 6 week check. Luckily I have no concerns about her but even so. I hear everyone else having 1 year, 2 year, 3 year checks and we've had nothing.

My DS will be 2 in may, the last time I saw or heard from HV was when he was 6 weeks old and only appointments he's ever had were for jabs.

I had to contact HV once and was v.rude unhelpful so I've managed fine without her!

Yes i got sent an appointment, which turned out not to be convenient, so I cancelled it. Do you have a "baby clinic"? I would just turn up there some time and ask for the 1 year check.

We don't have checkups here any more - with DS1 they had a 1 year checkup before their MMR, now with DS2 there is no longer a routine check, you just make an appointment for the MMR (which in our area you do yourself - you don't wait to be summoned - you also don't get summoned for pre-school boosters, you just have to remember).

I think it depends on your area - every PCT has a different policy, but our HVs are so stretched they have made a decision to cut down on routine checks and concentrate on children at risk or whatever, which I can understand.

Thanks for all responses. Yes, it must be about area. The baby clinic near me is horrendously busy all the time, so maybe it is as theyoungvisiter says and they are over-stretched.
Will be making appointments for jabs on Monday, I think there's a list in her red book of which ones she needs and when.

we made our own appointment for it. although for ds1 i actually didn't bother as wasn't concerned but for ds2 i made apt

We never had one. I arranged for DS to be weighed at 11 months as I wanted to check he weighed enough for a new car seat, but they confirmed at the time that they just didn't do one-year checks in my area.

They did contact me for a two-year check though!

Bt, your red book is probably out of date. The policy on the 12 month and 13 month immunisations was changed last year so that all 3 injections are now recommended in one visit (previously most areas gave them in 2 visits). So when you make the appointment you should book for MMR, PCV and Hib/Men C.

Our area doesn't do 12 month checks anymore, they send you a questionnaire that you fill in and send back. Complete waste of time.
