The things you didn't expect to drive you bonkers!

DS is 5.5mo and I love him to bits, but there are a couple of things he does that drive me bonkers - pulls (what's left of) my hair constantly so that I spend most of the day looking like Wurzel Gummidge and flails his wee arms about so I'm always getting hit/scratched (despite cutting his nails almost hourly, or so it seems!). Both of these things really wear me down for some reason - neither is intentional obviously, and are just part and parcel of him being a baby, but I could happily live without them! So what does your LO so that does your head in?!

When DS was at the just sitting up stage he used to headbutt my chest really hard while he was sitting on my lap. I know it was because he didn't hve full control of his neck yet but it bloddy hurt!

WorzselMummage · 02/04/2011 17:13

both my DC use their elbows on my boobs for leverage while having cuddles. I often have to swear under my breath.. it HURTS.

Bonners · 02/04/2011 18:54

My 6 month old does all of that (oh he LOVES pulling the hair from the nape of my neck!) and he quite often sneezes or coughs with milk in his mouth spraying it all over my face. Gag, gag, gag.

Wait till they are nearly 4 and they spend most of their day jumping off your furniture, roaring like a tiger and karate kicking their baby sisters head in the process....a wee elbow in the boob or hair removal from the back of your neck will seem like 'the good ol days'!

WorzselMummage · 02/04/2011 20:00

My DD is 6!

Tigresswoods · 02/04/2011 20:59

Its not so much what he does at my amazement at my own naivety.

For example, playing in the garden, of course he will want to eat the gravel and drink the water from the watering can. How did I not see this in my mental risk assessment of us playing outside?

He is 13 months.

comewhinewithme · 02/04/2011 21:03

Slapping my boob.
Hair pulling twiddling.
Sniffing drives me mad.
DS asking me where he should put his dirty clothes despite knowing that the dirty wash basket is in the bathroom and always has been.

Beamur · 02/04/2011 21:05

Mum mum mum mum mum mum mum
Drives me a bit potty some days, now I understand why my Mum occasionally threatened to change her name...

staineshunt123 · 02/04/2011 22:43

3 year old who:

Can only talk as if he is speaking in a room full of noisy people - wish he had a volume control switch
Constantly has one finger up his nose
Will flush after a wee but not after a poo (why why why!!??)
Telling me "fine" whenever he is told off!

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/04/2011 22:52

The constant chatter.
The constant stream of requests before I've even had a chance to make a cuppa in the morning, it goes something like this:

'Mam lift Ollie up, ollie have cup of tea, no ollie have coffee, ollie do it by himself, mam ollie have ffff-ffff pasta? maaaam? maaaam?, get ollie down, get ollie down, ollie want to watch cbeebies, mam watch cbeebies with ollie, ollie thirsty mam'

and he's in and out of the fridge, fingers in the coffee jar, tugging on my pyjamas until I am spinning around, trying to feed a crying baby too! It just drives me bonkers!

Having the appetite of an anorexic sparrow. I never thought that a toddlers eating habits would bug me but it does.

chocadoodle · 04/04/2011 14:04

Wriggling and trying to run away while I'm trying to get him dressed (DS 2.3) Taking 20 mins to get him dressed while he's constantly moving about and won't stand still.

But then when he's finally ready, he stands at the top of the stairs for ages refusing to budge while I'm telling him to come down and I'm hot, stressed and late...again.

You can't get anywhere fast with a toddler in tow can you?

Goldrill · 04/04/2011 20:17

trying to suck her thumb whilst BF. Stopping BF to gaze adoringly at me and smiling, whilst getting me, pillow, her etc drenched in milk. Very cute but VERY ANNOYING.

malachysmum · 05/04/2011 21:54

I go slightly insane keeping the highchair clean (but still enjoying BLWing). The hairs go up at the back of my neck and I start twitching when people come over and put their stuff on the highchair tray.

pipplin · 05/04/2011 21:57

Not being able to go to the bathroom in peace. I cannot go on demand and even less able to go with an audience. Let alone an audience who wants to climb up the bath/sink/my legs.

Definitely the hair pulling

memphis83 · 05/04/2011 22:06

as soon as a poo filled nappy is removed before the clean up has begun he tries to crawl away so it looks like we are taking part in a wheel barrow race as i drag him back without getting poo all over the living room!!! and then the screaming starts!!!

Booandpops · 05/04/2011 23:11

Why. Because gives answer
Why?
Repeat answer
Why mum?

Ahhhhhhgggggggggg

Oh and elbows in boobs too

Booandpops · 05/04/2011 23:12

And baking with them. Hate that. Thought I'd enjoy it but no

And the hour long meal times

Sugarkane · 06/04/2011 00:18

Both of my 2 are fascinated with my boobs, when they are tired they try desperately to touch them, my dd 2.10 has even been known to try and sneak up my sleeve to get a twiddle. Drives me bonkers and no matter how many times I say no move their hands etc every bloody night its the same thing.

ihatecbeebies · 06/04/2011 00:43

The why stage, at first I thought it was cute but the mountain of questions every 3 minutes starts to take its toll on my patience!

staineshunt123 my son does the same, always flushes after a pee and stands there to check it flushed properly, but then does a poo and just walks away!

MavisEnderby · 06/04/2011 00:48

Not flushing the toilet and leaving skidmarks.(he is male, why did I expect anything differentHmm)

Not brushing teeth properly

Being agonisingly slow when I am in a hurry

Prompting re homework

Selective deafness

malachysmum · 07/04/2011 19:08

memphis totally get the nappy chase thing, he's a little facinated with the wee malachy which is 'challenging' when he's had a poo
