So are things like Rockin Green and Tots Potion worth it?

Hi,

Just wondering really, we've had a bit of amonia smelling nappies and I've stripped them and was wondering if these products would help keep the smells at bay?

i bought some tots bots potion - I'm not convinced it is any better than ordinary washing powder and it costs a fortune

TribbleWithoutACause · 02/04/2011 20:12

Thats what I'm afraid of to be honest, paying a load of money and it being no better than the stuff I pay a couple of quid for in the supermarket.

I found Tots Bots Potion to be rubbish, unfortunately. The nappies smelt rank after a couple of washes in it, like it wasn't cleaning them properly.

I use the Potion so I can wash at 30degrees and have no such problems, but I also do a cold rinse cycle before the wash cycle 80% of the time which may help.

chipmonkey · 02/04/2011 20:54

I live in an area where the water is so hard, you don't have to be Jesus to walk on it. Could be that rather than the Potion.

I recently bought some Rockin Green, I must say I was shocked at how small the pack was, considering the price. I think my nappies are a bit less smelly since I've been using it, but not sure if I can justify the cost. Have been trying to get away with using just 1 scoop, but really I think 2 is better (pack says 1-2 for front loading machines).

Where can you buy Rockin Green?

ThePetiteMummy · 04/04/2011 18:15

From cheeks and cherries. Here you go:

Damn expensive though! I kept reading everyone raving about it online, but haven't made up my mind if I like it yet!

chipmonkey · 04/04/2011 18:26

Thanks, TPM. Shock at the price! May try the sample size out first and see how we get on.

MummyBerryJuice · 04/04/2011 18:29

I don't use any of those type of things and still wash at 40degrees. I usefive drops of tea tree oil (which I got off amazon for about £8/100mls and has lasted me about a year) in the rinse cycle and do a strip wash about every 5 washes.

I also do and extra cold rinse at the end of each wash, which I'm convinced helps with the smell as it gets rid of any residual detergent b

mummynutter · 05/04/2011 11:13

Wow that rocking green is EXPENSIVE!! Cant see it being worth that much money.
We use the Potion though which i like, but i even find that expensive. Was thinking of trying soapnuts instead.

ThePetiteMummy · 05/04/2011 13:14

Does anyone know if soap nuts get rid of wee wee smell? Might be worth a try. I still find our nappies whiff a bit when she wees in them (BGs and Ittis).

TribbleWithoutACause · 09/04/2011 11:40

PM I've stripped my nappies and that seems to have helped. I looked on the bumgenius page and they recomend a squirt of bleach in the wash every now and then to help with things like that.

Thanks Tribble! I think that's what we're in need of. I just hate the thought of other people thinking dd smells! (not very pleasant for me either!)

TribbleWithoutACause · 09/04/2011 18:34

I did the dishwasher tablet method which seems to be an easy way to strip the nappies in the short term.

OP posts:
ThePetiteMummy · 09/04/2011 19:22

Is that just a normal wash with a dishwasher tab, then lots of rinsing? Have previously only attempted a strip using a squirt of washing up liquid.

TribbleWithoutACause · 10/04/2011 10:36

When I've done it, I've done a normal wash with a tab in the drum and then an extra rinse.

I got my information from here ob CNT.

Sorry I meant here, I got the wrong thread.

Wow Tribble, what an informative thread, very good of the poster to give such detailed information on her research! I shall definitely do this soon, sounds fairly painless.
