My ds goes to childcare 2 days per week one day nursery and one day cm. The thing is since last September the pair of us have been nothing but ill im currently on my second cold/flu in the past 4 weeks. Its driving me insane! He has been misrable first half of week and is alot better now but now its my turn. I have found he is probably more ill since starting nursery in September. I would say ive had 4/5 colds since then and he is the same. We eat okish fruit/veg most days I exercise approx 3 times a week. The doc put him on anti biotics which they have never prescibed him before so I am hoping it will clear it all up once and for all.

I just feel im off work all the time and I only work 2 days a week now it always happens when im due in and I feel really bad. Does anyone else have this problem?

Went through six months of this when dd started nursery.Started to wonder what the attendance bonus at work looked like ! Dd is four now , we had a dodgy few months round xmas but fingers crossed nothing since then. I work part time and thought work might think bad of me but they were quite understanding. In my opinion it does get better once theyve built up their immunity a bit .

Its not just nursery, this year has been a particularly bad winter for colds, flu, viruses and bacterial infections. There is a lot going about and it seems to be hanging around. I've been ill at least once a fortnight since the beginning of December as has my DS. But my work colleagues without children have also been more ill than normal so hopefully with the good weather starting we'll all start feeling better.

Yes the first six months of nursery were particularly bad. Remember feeling mortified having had a week off for my dd's bad cold/ flu then a week off for mine - went back to work for a few days and she started vomiting. Felt like leaving job at that stage as I felt so bad. My advice is ignore any comments at work - it does get better and people soon forget. Someone told me taking zinc is very good for keeping colds at bay.

Yes, since September we have had flu, colds, coughs, Impetigp, general malaise, an allergic reaction to prawns and now chicknpox...............with both DS. FFS. It's been months since we both went to work as normal. A half day here a half week there, and I don't get paid for time off. DS1 is 5 and DS2 is 1, it HAS to get better soon........

Thanks its not just us then! I feel alot better today & ds managed to go to grannies house to play while i mooched round the shops in peace. I cant believe this time yesterday I was totally bedbound I could bearly walk and everytime I dropped off on the sofa ds would shout "MUMMY WAKE UP" until I did and this morning I felt 70% better. I might give the zinc a go.

A lot of children get more coughs & colds after they start nursery because they're mixing with more people so it's easier for bugs to spread. My ds was the same, the good news is it builds up their immunity so eventually they stop beeing ill as often as their body is able to fight the bugs. As someone said above this year has been particularly bad for infections.

My dd has been ill a lot since starting school in September, and both my dh and I are ill a lot more than normal as well. I don't believe much in the building up immunity story once they start school because if that was true us adults shouldn't become ill all the time as well. I have spoken with many other parents who had children becoming often ill once starting ill and becoming ill themselves ill as a result as well ... so either our generation had extraordinary poor immunity or there is not such a thing as building up immunity through school.
