Bio vs Non-Bio Washing Powder - Baby

DD is due in 7 weeks. It's my second but DH's first. DH is asking me whether it's absolutely necessary to use non-biological washing powder. First time round, I just automatically went for non-bio, but now he's asked me - well, I just don't know. Thoughts and ideas please!

Always non bio. I don't understand why anyone uses bio tbh. I've never had a problem getting any stains out with non bio Confused

Also hate when babies smell perfumed so no fabric conditioner either.

The first 6 months I washed LO clothes separated from ours with Ecover which is plant based and non bio so I thought more gentle too.
After six months I washed all clothes together with non bio one which I used before.

I don't have a baby but have sensitive skin and it's trial and error what will irritate it. At the moment Lidl bio powder straight into the drum is working well.
Also for anyone that's interested the pods really irritate my skin and I was told it's because I wash at too low a temperature to completely disintegrate the pod so it's not rinsed off properly.

Nhs says it doesn't matter. We just continued using what we had.

We use Ariel or persil bio. They don’t even sell non bio on the entire country I live in. So it’s not an option.

Ds has sensitive skin for certain things ie I use weleda baby only or he gets a rash, but no issues at all with washing powder.

I asked the paediatrician once, he said non bio was a British thing back in the 70/80s when they couldn’t get a key Ingredient for bio so heavily advertised non bio as ‘better’. He also said if your washing properly with enough water ie not on the eco option on machine, so proper cotton setting, all the detergent should be rinsed out in wash. The only reason to react to any is that your machine isn’t washing the soap out properly. Powder will always dissolve better.

I used non-bio for 35 years because my mum told me bio makes me itchy. I started buying clothes from ebay and they smelled really nice, turns out they were washed in bio detergent. I had no reaction to the ebay clothes so I bought some bio liquid. I love it, game changer, use it all the time for everyones clothes including baby. Screw you mum!

I have super sensitive, super itchy skin and whether I use bio or not bio makes no difference whatsoever. I've switched between the two regularly as I just buy whatever cheap/on offer, with no effect at all on the kids now or when they were babies.
