Hi all, hope I'm posting in the right place, I'm pretty new here. Basically have a bit of a daft question, but what do you guys do with your little ones when putting petrol in car, in particular paying for petrol? I normally fill up at asda, the one by me has those pay kiosk things thay you drive through so not normally an issue. But I've been skint, so not filled up, petrol light came on this evening, I get paid tomorrow so will fill up, but not sure if I have enough to get to asda (about four miles away). There's a petrol station much closer (less than a mile) but I would have to leave car unattended to go pay. I'm not sure I should leave her in a (locked) car. But seems such a faf to get her out to pay? Wondered what others do.

In case it helps she is 12 weeks old, and my first child, so maybe I'm being a bit over protective? :-)

I used to get my DD out if it wasn't a drive through (it was before the days of credit card pumps!). It really wasn't that much faff when she was in the little carseat with handle - worse when they're in the next stage seat.

I leave him in the car. You will likely get responses about cars spontaneously combusting if a baby is left in one but really, lock the doors and your baby is effectively in a safe. You can always see the car from the queue to pay. The only time I haven't is when it is a big shop where you often get a long wait to pay with people buying lots of groceries but I have never once returned to the car to find him in any way distressed.

Dd1 - took her in with me. When dd2 came along - leave them in the car. I'm certainly not getting two of them out.

I think if I'd had more than just my one PFB, I'd have told DH I'd be leaving them in the car, thereby ensuring that he would always make sure my tank was nowhere near empty Grin

Always take dd out, only takes a few more minutes and lots more piece of mind!

I always fill up where there's a pay at pump station. Would never leave DD unattended in the car while I paid at a station where you can't pay at the pump.

i take ds wit me. There was a thead about this a few months ago tho and there was more mixed views on the topic, ppl do both. I have a babasling which i use for short trips like this now ds is in second stage car seat, before in his other seat it was very easy to get him out (but we did have isofix)

monkoray · 30/03/2011 21:49

i used to take DS with me at that age but we had a base so it was really quick to pop the car seat out and take him in. Your DD should be Ok in a locked car though and you can usually see the car from the que while paying. I leave my DS in the car now he's in a fixed seat.

yummumto3girls · 30/03/2011 21:53

As long as you can see the car from the pay station, leave them in the nice dry, warm and safe car.

I try and fill up when I don't have DS with me, usually when I am on way to work. Will have to seek out credit card pumps when DC2 comes along and I am on mat leave.
