hubby has had a kidney transplant,he had it on the thursday, i told dla the following monday that he was in hospital. they had a go at me as apparently i should have informed them THE DAY he had the transplant???

now im trying to find out when i should tell of a change of circumstances but im getting conflicting info from them, some advisors are saying i should do a change of circs form straight away and some say too leave it till his care/mobility needs change.

i spoke to the hospital yesterday and they said that all having a transplant will do is to rectify dh,s blood chemistry, all the other problems that arose in the 6 years of him being on dialysis eg bone disease arent going to magically dissapear just because he has had a transplant.

im just so scared that his dla will be stopped as he still has alot of care needs. he has hypermobility syndrome and nerve damage in his left arm meaning he has very little use of the arm, he also has nerve damage in his leg from the transplant. plus asthma and eczema.....sorry for the waffle lol, think i just needed to write it all down, x

tammy - I hope your DH is improving now. I can't answer your question as I don't know about DLA, but I think you should have a chat with your GP to clarify the situation, but go with the hospital's advise in the mean time.

You've informed them that he has had the op. See how he goes over the next few weeks as he'll probably need about as much care for the time being as he did before I imagine - apart from the need for dialysis - so there won't be much of a change of circumstances for a while.

Good luck and hope your DH is ok.

hi thanks for your reply. i spoke to the doctor at the hospital last week and asked for advise, but she kept making references too him not being ready to go back to work and not to worry, i explained that dla has nothing too do with working, and tried to explain what it is and why hubby gets it but tbh i dont think she had even heard of it lol.

she was really nice though saying how he will need alot of care still. i do feel that we will be supported by the hospital with reports etc, and i i suppose its not the dla can say we havent rang them,
