Night time nappies for a 4.5 year old

WigWamBam · 26/10/2005 22:59

She's in Pampers pull-ups overnight at the moment, we've always found them fine but recently they're just not up to the job! She's waking up every morning dripping wet, and last night she got us up twice because the bed was wet.

She's nowhere near ready to go nappyless at night yet, so I'd be grateful for any recommendations for night-time nappies.

Thanks!

WWB - We use Tescos own nappy-pants at night for 4yr old ds. They work a treat and BOY does he still need a nappy at night!

WigWamBam · 31/10/2005 16:12

FangAche, I looked online for Tescos own nappies, and they don't own up to doing pull up ones in the right size - they did them in smaller sizes but not the 35lb plus size.

WWB where about are you? I've got at least 20 packs of nappies you could have - each pack contains about 20+ nappies. it may be more, i think i have a couple more boxes (thats at least 40 more packs) in the shed. i havent checked but i do think we put them there when we moved in here! but i am not promising they are in there until i check! I may have chucked them in the skip by mistake, knowing me!!!

My 6.5 yr old has just started to use the toilet and so i dont need them any more - i used to get them from the continence service. I had just had my delivery in his size, when out of nowhere he refused to wear them any more - sooo pleased - now if only he would stop seeping into his pants and smearing it on the wall!!!!!!

They would fit her and i am very happy to give them all to you.

bumping to make sure you come back to this wwb!

WigWamBam · 31/10/2005 22:36

Oh, bless you - that would be superb. I'll cat you - I'd pay you for them, of course.

great. i'm mud24 at hotmail dot co dot uk, and don't be daft - i am giving them to you if they are any use, just postage / courier or collect whichever you prefer. I am not going to take money for a favour and for something that didn't cost me anything in the first place!!!

WigWamBam · 01/11/2005 09:39

You're very kind - thank you. I catted you last night, but if you haven't got it I'll email you. Where are you ... we're near Birmingham but dh gads about a bit for work so we might be able to arrange for him to pick them up.

How frustrating about the smearing on the wall ... it must seem a bit like one step forward and two steps back sometimes.

hey toadie, long time no speak.

I came across a thread about SN (late) pooing, and alert devices etc. etc. It's not, of course, directly relevant, but possibly the devices which alert the child (and / or the parents) to the wee might help dd gain greater awareness IYSWIM.

Anything exciting in the garden ? I spent a day building raised beds for my allotment, and lugging bags of manure till I dropped, exhausted and drowing in my own sweat, LOL. It nearly looks v. v. good, LOL. Are you planting any spring bulbs at the mo ? I bought a v. dark purple lilly, and some exotic fritilaria (michaelovski ? sp. persica ?) anyway, they're both in the ultra dark / near black spectrum, so hopefully v. striking next year !

WigWamBam · 01/11/2005 19:10

Hey Hub, saw your lovely photos yesterday - Camille gets to be rather gorgeous, doesn't she!

I've seen some of the bedwetting alarms, but I'm not too concerned at the moment about the fact she doesn't wake to wee, just at the amount of sheet washing that I'm having to do at the moment! I have a pretty relaxed attitude to all things toilet-training related; I tend to think that it'll all come when it's ready, although if I'm still going through two lots of bedding every night in six months' time I may think differently! We've only recently cracked pooing on the toilet, despite having been dry for nearly two years, and she has started doing a bit of witholding of poo since she started school, so I don't want to push anything new onto her in that direction just yet.

At the moment our gardening efforts centre around the removal of the largest quince in the history of mankind ... it's in danger of taking over the entire street, if not the universe. The roots go down about four feet and are incredibly tightly knit, you wouldn't believe a shrub could be such a bugger to remove! I have a nice pittosporum and a scented daphne to go in its place. Very tempted by some new fritilaria but the local slugs seemed rather fond of the last lot I planted so maybe not the best idea!

yep, she's quite a cutey. dw and dd also made the lunchtime news today (friend needed a piece to camera set in someone's kitchen and we were nearest, LOL). V. exciting !

Agree with not pushing the toilet training, just wondered if the more gentle systems (one is a small disk which plays a nice tune when wet) might help her make connections, and just learn from the sensation, rather than trying to use it to 'fix the problem' IYSWIM.

Your quince roots do not sound v. funny at all. Erm... good luck ? !!!! Daphnes smell amazing. Is it flowering now ? (or have I got my timing wrong ?).

I am knacked and off to bed

Night.

WigWamBam · 01/11/2005 19:39

Night, oh knackered one. I'm sure your very photogenic ladies had a whale of a time playing to the camera!

The quince roots are most definitely not funny. And each branch seems to have its own separate root as well, and they're all tangled up together ... if you pull one of the roots, a stem three feet away moves! I am not impressed but should probably have done something about it sooner. The daphne is about to flower, I adore the smell and hope that I'm not too late bunging it in. They're a bit temperamental but I have my fingers crossed that it'll be OK.

I will consider one of the alarms if dd is still having problems at night in a year or so, they certainly sound like something that would be worth trying.

Do you know Clerodendron Bungeii (sp ?) - similarly strong smell. I just bought two and they were flowering when I bought them and are still going strong. It's great having scent this late in the year. I grabbed a Hemorocalis too for scent later on.

Yes, the girls are still revelling in their 30 seconds of fame. There's an NCT meet up this afternoon and I'm sure the video is coming out !

Good luck with Quince From Hell.

WWB - sorry to crash this thread, but did your dd just decide to start pooing on the toilet when she was ready? I'm in exactly the same position as you were - my dd is dry during the day but when it comes to pooing she demands a nappy then takes herself off to the bathroom to poo in it (!) It's all completely manageable, but just wondering if you employed any tactics in the end to get her onto the toilet.

WigWamBam · 02/11/2005 12:31

Oh, hub ... don't tempt me with those lovely smells, you'll have me drooling all over the PC! I love scented plants, give me smell over blooms any day. Bl**dy quince is still out there looking at me but there's no way I'm doing battle with it in the rain.

franke, yes - when she was ready, she just started pooing on the toilet. She had been dry for about 16 months but always had a nappy for pooing in. We tried everything ... star charts, chocolate lollipops as bribes (they were there so long they went past their sell-by), you name it. Then someone told me that weeing and pooing need to be treated as two separate things; if the child is ready for one, it doesn't mean they're ready for the other. They need to be emotionally ready for it as well as physically ready, and my dd definitely wasn't emotionally ready. She had a nappy to poo in, and some people suggested I should put her on the toilet in the nappy but she wouldn't have it, she would take herself off to her favourite corner of the bedroom at exactly the same time every day. So in the end we just relaxed about it and let her have the nappy - it wasn't worth forcing the issue.

Then one day she needed a poo at a different time of day, had a bit of a tummy upset so knew she couldn't wait to get a nappy on, and just took herself to the loo. We then made her a star chart, because she was still a bit uneasy about it, but having done it the once we just built on it from there. We've had a bit of a lapse since starting school because she's worried about using the school toilets to poo but we're addressing that one gently and hopefully it will pass.

Thanks for that WWB. DD is exactly the same - same time every day, won't even sit on the toilet with her nappy but goes into the bathroom, locks the door and gets on with it. So I'll relax and try to be patient...
