Is it worth another go?

Hi all, dd is now 21 months and about 2 months ago seemed to be very interested in the potty so I gave it a go and tried to explain what to do. She seemd to get it really quickly and in 2 days she had 2 poos in potty although no wees. Third day she missed with the poo and managed a wee. She went back to nursery on day 4 and they tried her on potty but she wasn't interested. The following weekend I tried again but it was like she had just lost interest. About 2 weeks ago she said she needed a poo so I tried her with the potty and she sat on it for ages reading her book and then kept getting up and sitting back down and eventually had a poo when standing (managed to catch it in the potty - lol). She seemed really scared though when she saw what she'd done and hasn't wanted to sit on it since!
Should I leave it a while and try again? No idea about this as she's my first! I only bought the potty in preparation and had no intention of even trying until she was about 2.

I would leave it just 2-3 weeks and try again. She sounds ready but best not to push it too much if she got a fright.

Thanks creepmonkey, is the "fright" bit quite normal then. i was quite alarmed myself at her being so scared!

Hi spookyboo,

Just started potty training, dd recently turned two. She did a poo in the potty yesterday but was also terrified while doing it and when she saw it! So terrified she hasn't managed anything else in the potty and I have given up. She's happy to sit on it but this morning she held out without a pee for nearly 5 hours!

Guess I'll try again in a few weeks too.

I'm not alone!

Apparently, they think the poo is a part of themselves which has fallen off! Thats why they get scared.

Started potty training with my dd 22mths, 2 weeks ago as she has been driving us mad for a few months not wanting her nappy on for her poos, and demanding her nappy changed for a teaspoon of wee, along with trying to put my underwear on. Yet she does not like doing her poos in the potty. She does not seem as bothered by them now as she was at the start however . Someone at nursery has told her her nappies were dirty and now she doesn't like putting on a nappy for sleeptime as she tells me its dirty. Got on really well the first 5 days of training when I was at home with her, then disaster when she went back to creche. Came home at the end of first week at creche with no accidents, good weekend and then not a great week last week at creche. I was considering putting her back in nappies this weekend as I am concerned she may be too young. Hadn't planned to consider training her until at least sping/summer 06. Excellent weekend again so I now feel guity about going to stop. Can go out for 3 hours with no accidents. But still not sure what to do if it all goes astray when she goes back to creche this week. Is she too young, considering she is not at home all the time. Should we keep going? At what point would you give up?
