Consistency of purees and baby rice

Hi,

We have started on the baby rice recently. We added the "right" amount of milk and it wad thicker than I imagined it would be so I added a splash more milk, the further we got into the feed the thinner it became, unsure if more stirring watered it down or what?! How thick should the baby rice be? We're also starting carrots at the weekend....what kind of consistency should purees like this be?

Thanks

I find that baby rice is the only thing that does this-gets thinner as you're giving it. Everything else keeps it's consistency. We didn't use it on it's own for very long, and really only use it now to thicken up runny purees or to make sharp tasting purees (especially fruit) a bit milder.

As for carrots, they're quite watery anyway, I cook them, puree them and probably add about a couple of tablespoons of breastmilk at first, (or the cooking water)

We've not long started and it's a bit of trial and error, if it's too thick she spits it out, too thin and she just dribbles it out!

I'm finding it hard to describe the consistency, maybe if you load the spoon and it slides off slowly rather than either pouring off or staying stuck on - that's what you aim for at first!

How old is your baby? If they are 6 months they don't need anything pureed. You can mash a bit if it makes you feel happier but they will be fine with finger foods.

Agree with Lurcher, if your baby is 6 months, cut the carrots into wedges and steam then for about 5 mins instead. Its so much easier than purees.

Thanks, she's just over 5 months so won't be pureeing for too long, but it is needed now!

So am I aiming for a yoghurt type consistency?
