Barrier cream for cloth nappies

I want to start using cloth nappies on my 4 week old son (i was waiting until now to recover a bit from my c-section, as advised by the nappy lady at my hospital). I've got Bambino Mio's and a few Tot's Bots. What is the best barrier cream to get, to try and prevent nappy rash? If it makes any difference, my skin is quite sensitive to too many chemicals. Thanks.

vaseline
sudocrem
both work well imo

Hopefully you should find that occurences of nappy rash are rarer with cloth nappies. When my dd has a bit of a red bottom I use Weleda Nappy Change Cream. Like with most of the nappy creams you only need a tiny bit - but it always seem to work for us.

Thanks for the input. Now i'm probably going to sound really silly, but do i need to use the cream every time (pre-emptive strike), or do i only use it when his bottom is looking red? Sorry, i'm a first-timer!

Hi, I use cloth nappies and use vaseline. Put it on every time, prevention is better than cure! If my ds gets bit sore, I put on sudo crem. He rarely gets nappy rash anyway.

I've only been using cloth nappies for 4 mths (dd is now 5) so am a relative newie as well. I only use the cream when her bottom is red. To be honest she only gets a sore bottom if I've left the nappy on for a bit too long.
There's lots of information on the
nappy lady site so I hope this helps...

everytime but make sure baby has plenty of times on changing mat on floor with nappy off to let air circulate

be careful what washing powder you use. some are harsher than others. i found fairy non bio pretty good. ecover seems to irratate dd's skin.

DD had dry skin but luckily didnt get too much nappy rash. I tried to keep her out of nappies where possible (easier to do in the summer, mind). When wiping her bum I used a muslin or flannel soaked in camomile tea rather than wipes as I found they irritated her skin.
