Anyone take metformin in pregnancy?

Hi I posted in the pregnancy section but thought parents here might know a little about this...

I am wondering if anyone has taken Metformin during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy i am not pregnant yet (fingers crossed for the future) and my dr said if i go on metformin to conceive and get pregnant i should stay on it for 8 weeks as it prevents miscarriage (I had a mis last time)

Has anyone done this?
I am worried about the effects of metformin on a baby during pregnancy, I just want a healthy perfect baby.

Thanks in advance

Not personally, no, but I know someone who did and also found this for you:

I don't know about the miscarriage thing but I was told I could continue on the metformin until I was 12 weeks.

We give metformin in pregnancy now for gestational diabetes, it's considered safe.
Also TTC and on metformin and will definitely take it during pregnancy (should it ever happen) although my GP not too keen. however it reduces the chance of miscarriage to 'normal' levels if you have PCOS and possibly prevents gestational diabetes which is also higher risk with PCOS, so I will definitely be sticking with it. If you haven't got PCOS then don't think metformin would be helpful.

Yes I did now 8 years ago. I have PCOS and was taking it for that to get pregnant. Minute I was preggers (6 weeks when i found out) I stopped instantly but in those days it was cutting edge to give to woman with PCOS. I have heathy 8 nearly 9 yr old DS. Good luck

I did too.

I was on it for 6 months prior to conceiving my DS and my consultant said I would need to stay on it for at least 12 weeks to prevent MC.

To be honest, I did alot of research before even going on met and from what I read there is a great deal of evidence that PCOS sufferers do have an increased chance of MC which is why they advise staying on the Met.

I had the mild morning sickness but a trouble-free pregnancy which wasn't bad going for an old first time mum. If you've been advised to stay on the Met then I would.
