when they don't need to are selfish and uncaring and should never have had children if they didn't want to look after them

Pass me the gin, someone.

id like to have a job but i dont have one so i am SAHM but not by choice.

hunkerpumpkin · 24/10/2005 23:26

I am selfish and uncaring and I work because I need to. Oh, I'm so confused.

Caligula · 24/10/2005 23:27

Have a gin

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 24/10/2005 23:35

actually i worked with a woman last week who had an older child. I explained that IME I had found that I couldn't abide the idea of going back to work when DS was born, but by the time he was about 8 months I felt ready and actually looked forward to having some time away. Her child was nearly a year older and she said she still hated leaving him and was going on mat leave early so she wouldn't have to again. How bad did that make me feel? I always feel I send out signals that I don't love DS as much as I do. And I worry me! Qoq, it's your fault I am feeling this way!

GillL · 25/10/2005 09:42

I work full time because I need to but, even if I didn't I would still at least work part time. I couldn't bear the thought of being at home 24x7. I couldn't wait to go back to work after maternity leave to get some time to myself. Now I'm back at work dh shares the care of dd and my mum looks after her when dh is at work - so she's still with people who love her.

If working full time makes me uncaring and selfish then so be it.

kid · 25/10/2005 09:43

I have worked part time since DS was 10 months old. Now he is in full time nursery, I work full time.

expatinscotland · 25/10/2005 09:46

Yes, and women who must work b/c they can't afford to stay at home w/their kids should never have them in the first place. Only wealthy people w/a man who can support the family and provide a 4-bed detached home should have kids.

But those who put off till their mid-30s or later to find said man are nature-defying freaks.

twirlaround · 25/10/2005 10:22

Women should bring up their own kids but should not scrounge off the state or off a man and should be attractive and groomed with a beautiful home and make jam. No wonder the birth rate is dropping.

How can any of us ever get it right?!!

FangAche · 25/10/2005 10:28

I work because I can't stand my children. I only had them so that I would have something smaller than me to shout at. At every given opportunity I get the hell away from them and choose to sit at a PC in a big office and have a larf with the office girls.

When I get home I drink gin, just so I don't snap when their irritating little voices start "Mummy can I have... ?" "Mummy I need..." and even WORSE when they say "Mummy I love you"! >shudder<

After all I'm a career woman. I can't possibly be a career and woman AND enjoy being a Mum. Thats just the way it is.

sweetkitty · 25/10/2005 10:45

I'm a SAHM mum because I'm a lazy cow and was fed up working anyway so only had a baby so I could stay at home all day and not have to work. I stay on mumsnet all day and plonk my DD in front of cbeebies with tea in a bottle and a packet of choccie digestives.

jersey · 25/10/2005 10:45

I work full time because I have to and DH won't let me stop working as he won't agree to cut back on expenditure!!!

If get preg again soon will hopefully be cutting hours a little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I could I would stay at home with my son.

sweetkitty · 25/10/2005 10:49

make that plain digestives cos I've eaten all the choccie ones myself

littlerach · 25/10/2005 11:00

Not turkey twizzlers then?

uwila · 25/10/2005 11:06

I just work so I can find time for mumsnet.

moondog · 25/10/2005 11:13

I tell ya what, work is waaaaay more peaceful than my present life as an sahm.Having done both,I know which is easier.

Gameboy · 25/10/2005 11:17

I work so that someone who has a zillion times more patience than me can earn a living feeding ducks and wiping bottoms...

And because I get paid a fortune for drinking coffee and reading Mumsnet...

beetlejuice73 · 25/10/2005 11:19

Moondog, Uwila & Gameboy you're my kind of mothers!

Women who work, earn lots, are happy, with gorgeous sexy husbands, and beautiful, well-adjusted, well-balanced, bright, confident and articulate children....

just shouldn't be allowed quite frankly.... (and certainly should not be allowed to post on MN...)

FangAche · 25/10/2005 11:45

ROFL Issymum!! That about sums it up.

OrribleOliveoil · 25/10/2005 11:51

I thanked the Lord that it was Tuesday today and that meant work instead of a whining 3 year old and a screeching 14 month old who insists on rolling instead of crawling/walking but still manages to end up under the (heavy) TV.

Shall I phone the Social or will you?

Thanks.

melissasmummy · 25/10/2005 13:22
