Cleaning the face

This may seem like a really stupid question, but here is the place I feel most comfortable asking anything.

Since I stopped using cooled down boiled water to clean my dd's face, I have just used plain tap water and a flannel. She is now 2 and I was wondeirng what other Mums do? Do you use any kind of mild soap? I don't want to start introdcuing chemicals to her face before I have to, but sometimes I wonder if water alone is actually doing the job.

i use water but my dd uses johnsons baby soap in the bath and washes her face with a sponge......she has very sensitive skin but this has never bothered her.....i got it in my eye once mind and it hurt like hell...

Angeliz · 16/09/2003 22:58

I mean (after reading my own post it doesn't make sense!!), i use water on her in the morning and she uses soap in the evening in the bath..she is 2.6

eemie · 16/09/2003 22:59

Well I'm still using water only and mine's four. I'll be interested to see what everyone else says. I think I've used soap on a flannel for face paints, and nail varnish remover once. I've also licked her if it's only chocolate but I know experts don't recommend that.

Just water and flannel in the morning and after meals etc on face. Liquid soap (DS's preference) on hands. Asda baby soap and hand on body in bath (flannel for stubborn dirt eg knees). But just hand and water for face at night. Have a little game for face washing because otherwise he hates it...

Thought you might like to know that when dd 23 months went through a phase of hating having her hands and face wiped (with water and flannel) after each meal, I resorted to singing 'oh wo the okey cokey'each and every time. Nice. She's over it now.

gingerbabe · 17/09/2003 14:09

Thanks for all your replies - think I will carry on with just warm water and a flannel, until a real reason to change.

DD is 17 months old. In a morning (or after a meal/snack) she gets just water and a flannel, or a wet wipe if in a rush. On holiday we used those Johnsons Soft Wash wipes all over and she was fine too.

At night she has a bath with bubble bath and her face gets wased with a sponge using the bath water.

If really dirty after painting or whatever then she gets some form of soap - normally whatever hand wash we have by the bathroom sink (at moment is is Carex Squirty Foam).

DD doesn't have particular sensitive skin so all of these have been fine for her.

Agree with eemie in that I have never used soap products on my dd's face (she's 6) except for once or twice to remove face paints, and then it was oilatum wash stuff.

FairyMum · 23/09/2003 10:04

Only water. Never use soap except for feet (don't they have smelly feet?) and hands.

CountessDracula · 23/09/2003 10:16

You'll prob think I'm bonkers but I clean my dd's face with an Evian Brumisateur (the mist spray thing that you squirt yourself with when it's hot). Started in S of France this summer when I discovered that DD loved it, she beams as I squirt it on after every meal and the food just wipes off. I call it Mr Muscle for Babies faces.

aloha · 23/09/2003 10:41

Only water, and I put it on with just my wet hands - ds likes that and he's not keen on flannels.

Tissy · 23/09/2003 10:46

CD, I think you're bonkers for using Evian, but I'm definitely going to try a plant mister with some tap water in it

CountessDracula · 23/09/2003 11:04

Evian spray v v fine that's why I use it (plus have a huge bottle left over from holiday)

This coming from the Vampire who was caught using balsamic vinegar to clean her windows (well my mum said use vinegar and it was all I had lol!)
