Strategies needed for dealing with tiredness when dc 3 arrives

I am someone who deals with lack of sleep by being very grumpy and snappy. I found it very difficult after dc2 born, mainly because I was really really short tempered with dd. What can I do do Pre empt tiredness induced crossness? I am really looking forward to baby but dreading being the person I was afterwards .

I think the possibly the best thing to do is just resign yourself to being a bit snappy for the first few months. Honestly, your other DC won't be harmed by it and there is only so much you can do.

Oh, and take any offers of help with your older two without thinking twice.

Also, this time you may get a sleeper. I have a friend whose baby is one of those mythical ones who slept through from 2 weeks of age. Her other children were awful sleepers so she was just on cloud nine with number 3. My SIL was also similar, first child, nightmare sleeper, second and third ones absolute dreams.

early to bed.

my third has been a great sleeper - fingers crossed you will have one too.

I was and am the same and have just started a thread. I really think how i was after dc2 has damaged dc1 and changed how she will be forever :(

Personally i think going out and keeping busy being in people's company etc helps with tiredness? sometimes if you give into it and try to laze at home it makes it worse? well for me it does so i just have to push through it and try to get on with it, (and drink coffee Grin ) am expecting dc3 too so hoping this strategy will work...
then try to get bit of help from dh (or anyone else willing) on weekend to see if you can get a lie in on one of the days to help recharge?

remember - im sure your dc wouldn't really be permantly damaged by your tiredness after having a new baby, it is to be expected in a way? dont be too hard on yourself

What narmada said. It helped that my third was also a great sleeper - I would just put her down on the bed and she'd be gone. Take all offers of help, especially those who offer to take one or all of your dc's out for a hour (or more!). Are your older ones at school? It helps if you organise things the night before, saves less shouting in the morning.

I am still grumpy, tired and snappy and my youngest is nearly 4. But I am getting marginally less so the older they get.

Remember I feel that way about my dc1. Where is your thread?
